Cleaning a dummy/pacifier/soother for newborn

Thanks heaps to the girls that answered my other question.

My daughter is 2 weeks old and I have given her a dummy to soothe her. Now I sterilized the dummy last night as it was new but is it ok to wash it with hot water (from tap) before giving it to her again or should it be sterilized each use?

Sorry if the question stupid but I'm a first time mummy and have absolutely no idea.

I have a dummy tree where you hang the dummies on it put some water at the bottom and sterilise them in the microwave with the lid on for 60 seconds. I just used to do that every use when she was a newborn. The older they get you tend to be a bit less cautious because literally everything starts going into their mouths, so there isn't really much point in constantly sterilising the dummies.

If you can't find a dummy tree thingy (mines called clever mama think I got it from mamas and papas or kiddicare) just put it in a jug/bowl of boiling hot water from the kettle and leave it in there for a couple minutes x

Up to the time they are putting everything in their mouths (at least until 3 months) you should sterilise the dummies before use. Immune system def not mature enough at 2 weeks yet.

Washing at the tap is fine. Babies suck on un-sanitized boobs all the time. Sucking on an "un-sanitized" pacifier isn't going to do any harm. It's mostly just important to "sanitize" the first use.

I'm glad that despite my doctors telling me I didn't have to sterilize, I still sterilized everything, as she had a really bad case of thrush that I didn't noticed until it spread onto her lips. (Luckily it didn't spread into her diaper area! Maybe because I was sterilizing everything anyways, before they told me to sterilize everything that's been in her mouth.)

Don't forget her medicine dropper!

I didn't until even after a round of nystatin, it didn't clear up!

I bought a bunch of oral syringes to keep on hand now, and just toss em after using it! Much cheaper than all her medicine I ended up tossing, just in case.

I agree, they are way too young!

I only introduced a pacifier (much to my annoyance) yesterday and I sterilised before use and will do it today.. He's only used it a couple times... As a pp said he sucks on my boobs and I don't sterilise those befor every use haha and he's been around a bunch of people who could be carrying bugs ... If it drops on the floor fair enough but I read somewhere as long as mum is healthy it is better for mum to suck on the dummy then put it in babies mouth... I dunno tho... I just run the kettle over it if all else fails

I only ever sterilised at first use, after that I just washed in hot soapy water.

I have lots of dummies to rotate. That way there's always one sat in the steriliser clean, and my steriliser claims to keep things safe up to 24 hours if left inside it. So if he does drop a dummy or i think it's been left out a little longer than it should I go grab a fresh one. I am not 'obsessed' though. There have been times it's been rinsed quickly

I have one of those Milton dummy sterislisers (like a little purple ball). I bought it for being out and about but ended up using it in the house too. I keep a dummy in there while she's using another and just keep rotating them as she drops them under the sofa or whatever so there's always a clean one handy. I just change the solution each morning as part of my bottle sorting routine.

Sterilise before every use sometimes babies have milky mouthes, and its stuff that gets milky that's important to sterilise
