How do you do it?

We have a large brown leather sofa in our kitchen and I tend to wipe it down with a damp cloth. It's now starting to look like it could do with some sort of treatment, and it's looking faded in places. I've seen you can buy leather wipes and various cleaning products, but there seems to be so much choice.

Any recommendations? Thanks.

If u wanted it done really properly i would probably recommend paying a company to do it as all the things u can buy in the shops are ok for general cleaning but not for a proper treatment. We got a kit with our suite to clean it with so u could maybe try a couch shop and buy one of those kits as i think they would be better than the ones in supermarkets but try baby wipes, i swear by them for getting dirt from my couch, its amazing what they remov and u can also put some baby lotion on a wipe and rub it in because apprently you need to moisturise the leather. Kx

I use babyipes to clean spillages but then leather wipes once in a while.

If your wanting to treat it i think you can get cream to put on. Have a look in a sofa shop for some leather polish.

What type of leather is it? I think if its leather like this:

..then you should be fine just using baby wipes or leather wipes.

But if its 'natural' leather (ie, you can see all the marks and scars that the cow had) then i think its a different story as they are treated differently!

Best to pop down to your local furniture store and ask them whats best to clean it with. They will have stuff there you can buy but I imagine it's probably over-priced!!

When I was buying mine I was told under no circumstances was I to use baby wipes because the alcohol in them lifts the colour

I too got a kit for cleaning when I bought them and I do it every 6 months. Inbetween I just use a barely damp cloth.

I dunno iv got a white leather so the colour hasent changed.

My nan just used to use furtature polish on hers.

yeah you shouldnt use Baby wipes :nope: my dad did that and it stripped the top layer of leather off it! he was totally gutted:)

you can use saddle soap - but buy a really decent one if you have a horsey shop near by see if you can get some Stuuben its in an orange pot. Or go to a sofa shop and they will have a specialist stuff tho it is usually quite expensive (but worth it :D)

Leather wipes are the best for it! My niece recently drew on our leather couch with a permanant marker and after a few days of wiping it with the leather wipes it came off with no damage to the couch!

I've a real leather brown sofa too, warm soapy water to clean any muck off then use a good leather cream. I can't remember what its called but the one I use you can get in the super market and is the same brand as the beeswax wood polish which comes in a little glass pot. The leather cream smells like vanilla - its lush!! Really brings up the sofa lovely!
