Cleaning babies teeth

How do you do it without them swallowing the toothpaste? Does it really matter?

I'd get the infant/toddler toothpaste. Orajel makes a great one we use for erica. It's flouride free and safe to swallow. I brush hers with the toothpaste, then rinse the brush and brush again with just water. Then I rinse it again and let her brush awary while I brush my own teeth.

I have infant tooth and gum cleaner from Gerber, since it has no flouride they can swallow it. I brush Char's gums with it every night in her bath.
