They told me to let water run over it in the shower and pat dry but now that my stomachs gone down theres a bit of an overhang on my scar and im worried about it getting infected as i did a lot of housework earlier and it started to feel a bit sticky and because of the overhang im worried its not getting air needed to heal or enough water on it in the shower and am not too sure how to look after it!

My doctor told me to use my hair dryer on low on the scar a few times a day. Worked great at keeping it dry and I didn't have to wipe it. In the shower I lightly pulled up on the overhang so the water could run over the scar.

I just shower and pat mine dry. I have the overhang too. Just want to let you know that the overhang should go away in time. Mine did with my first section.

Thank you!! I was trying not to stress about it but its hard and I don't know anyone who had a section it was freaking me out because I've never been thin but never had this loose overhang either! Hope it goes away soon it has already improved a little so fingers crossed!

My doctor also told me that I could cover the area with a thin layer of gauze (and to change that every few hours) to absorb moisture

Shocker you are right to be concerned. Mine got infected as I didn't pat dry after baths and showers / getting hot etc. It cleared up in a week with antibiotics but what i did was pat it dry with kitchen towel folded over ifykwim and then i applied folded over gauze (got it from a chemist) and attached it with surgical tape. This soaked up any sweat etc and worked a treat. I wore loose clothes and didn't do anything to make me sweaty for a week. I also put the cold hairdryer on it 2x a day. Oh and in the shower i used Carex handwash! by putting it over my lower tummy and letting it run down ifykiwim? Doctor at hospital examined me on Friday as I wanted my scar checked out as I was finishing the anti b's and she said it had healed beautifully. NO ONE told me how to care for my scar when I left hospital :growlmad:

My doc told me to use surgical spirits and 5 cotton balls. With the first 4 cotton balls you dip it in the surgical spirits and clean the incision. With the last cotton ball you pat the incision dry. Do it 3 times a day

I used to clean it after a shower with rubbing alcohol. Not much, just a little. I would pat it on there with a cotton ball. My scar healed very fast and I too had the overhang. It has already started to go away so don't fret, it won't be there for too much longer. :)

My midwife told me to have a warm bath and add 6 drops of tea tree oil to the water. It worked beautifully, however you need to wash it off your boobs really well if you are breast feeding.

You can also try laying on your back after bathing/showering and letting your wound air dry x

is anyone using a folded over pad or rolled up wash cloth over their scar to keep it dry all day and than putting a new one on there the next day? i was told when i left the hospital to do that but im affraid its not getting any air... im over weight so i have a a nice sized over hang...

No, I didn't use that. I am overweight too. I used rubbing alcohol to clean under the fold after my shower. Otherwise, I kept nothing under it so that it would get some air and not get infected.

Im a bigger woman and have a baby belly fold. It went back after first section, but didnt after no.2

Air your tummy as much as possible, and use the shower head to clean the wound. The hair dryer is a good tip once your home.

I agree there should be more info available on this from hospitals.
