Quick question for ladies who have had there sections already. i had myn on wednesday and im on clexane until baby is 6 weeks. Im also wearing the classic stockings. Both are to reduce the risks of blood clots. Not sure how long im meant to keep the stockings on though. any ideas?

I'm a nurse, and we always tell patients to wear them until they are back to their full mobility :flower:

thanx for the reply. Another thing im confused about is nurses at hospital said go home and take it easy dont do anything get other people to do it for you. Yesterday i had a midwife visit she said keep mobile and do things you would normaly do. Confused now.

Just do what you feel upto, don't over do it, I was doing bits if housework as soon as I got home, I only wore the stockings the first 5 days they itched my legs so much I stopped but I was moving around nearly as much as normal, going to supermarket etc, 3 weeks on im nearly back to normal, can pick my toddler up and carry him though not for very long, can push the trolley round in supermarket, and pram easily but uphill I struggle, Carseat I can carry without much difficulty. And I can do all housework apart from hoovering/mopping. If I do too much and im on my feet all day, I get achey pains round were my scar is and have to take my painkillers,
Basically you know yourself your limits so just trust your judgement, but remember you are recovering from an operation, I carried loads of shopping in the house from the car at 11days past section and popped my scar open abit and had to stay in bed for s few days!

wow your doing really well. Well in my last pregnancy i had to keep the stocking on for 5-6 weeks from what i remember. But this time around im also on injections (clexane) for 6 weeks after birth, so im not sure when to take stockings off. They are a pain cant wait until they are off, so uncomfortable.
As fort the mobility im trying to keep as mobile as i normally would but havnt really done any housework but there is so much to do. Hubbys gone back to work today he works 5am- 6pm, i guess i will wait another few days before i start cleaning.

Definitely take it easy and don't push yourself. Easier said than done with a new baby I know!! I think the second midwife probably meant to keep mobile and not just sit around, there is no way you are expected to go straight back to doing what you did before after major surgery. Plus the fact that you aren't supposed to lift anything heavier than the baby for 6 weeks. I did far to much straight away and felt fine, but it hit me later on. My c section wound still hasn't healed up either, and I'm sure this contributed to it. If it was me, I would take the stockings off (they are awful to wear), especially as you are on clexane. Are you on a 40mg dose? Just remember to keep moving your legs. Good luck with your new bub :flower:

Im on 60mg dose due to high bmi, but i am very active i have a toddler so i have to be really. I really want to take them off but worried about a dvt developing (suffer from anxiety also) so every twinge in my leg i think of the worst.

Well, not alot of rest for you with a toddler too!! My 9 month old is so active already, I dread to think what she will be like when she is nearly 3!! I moved back to Australia from the UK when I was 34 weeks pregnant, and wore the stockings for a few weeks after at night and took them off during the day while I was active (not sure you can call me waddling around active lol), and was on clexane for a few weeks too. Its a pretty low risk of developing a DVT/PE if you are moving and taking clexane, but I understand the worry.

hmm I never had stockings on during or after the procedure, i had these inflatable cuff things that looked like blood pressure cuffs and they stayed on me over night
I also had injections every day in the morning into my tummy for three days and yeah it hurt but now Im fine, no stockings or injections or anything
i am surprised you have them??
maybe its different in N.Z

Im still wearing my stocking and its been a week, i have a health visitor coming on saturday so i will ask her but they are soooo annoying. Everyone on my ward had these stocking on and alot of people had injections also. It must be different where you are, do you wanna swap :)

I was told I could take my stockings off when I got home. I was only taking Clexane (1 in the morning and 1 in the evening) for 5 days, 3 of which were in hospital. I think if you're active enough, it'll be safe to take them off. You're still taking Clexane so if you feel it's ok, I'm sure you will be. :) Happy healing. :flower:

I took my stockings off in hospital the first night, they were too tight (I appreciate that is the point lol) and felt like they'd cut the blood supply off. They hurt so much I struggled to peel them off, kicked them under the bed and no-one mentioned it again. I had clexane for the nights I was in plus 5 at home x
