My fertility specialist recommended the two in conjunction.
I asked if I could just do the clomid, if we go that way, and he said it has to be both together, for better results. I didn't think that was the case.
Anyone just taking clomid?
Thanks

Usually the IUI is necessary if you've been trying for a while unsuccessfully and/or your partners count is on the low side. Does this apply to you? If not, what were the reasons your FS gave? I'm on the same path as you, so I'm curious to see who responds. My opinion is, do what will give you the best odds, and fastest results.
Good luck!!!!

I am on my fourth cycle of clomid and did 2 iui's... no cysts on ovaries... we did planned intercourse between iui's. Dh has a sperm count of 286 million and he was uncomfortable doing it lol.... the problem is me. But point here is you don't need a low sperm count or an iui to be on clomid. You need to have cyst free ovaries.

I have been given clomid (just on my second round). I am not doing IUI. I think it depends on the doctor and the specific's of your situation as to what they will do. I did get a bfp after my first round of clomid (unfortunately I had a m/c so I am trying again). I used provera (progesterone) to force af as my cycles are really long and irregular, clomid (50mg), had follicle tracking ultrasounds and got an HCG trigger shot the first time. When they did the follicle tracking I had two good follicles but they did not ovulate on their own (after 3 ultrasounds and 6 days they were still there and they had expected ovulation at the first scan). I was not planning to do the trigger shot but when it looked like I wasn't going to ovulate on my own they gave it to me and it worked. I am hoping that the clomid will work for me again. We had been ttc for a year and a half prior to the bfp and m/c.

This month I took the clomid but am not able to do the tracking (due to Christmas holidays in the clinic....boo for bad timing). I will try again with the tracking next cycle if this doesn't work.

I would ask more questions of your doctor. I would want to know why he said it has to be together. There are lots of people who take clomid without having IUI. My understanding is that IUI would be a next step if the clomid didn't work for me on its own.
