Hello,

I did 50 mg of clomid last month (my first month) and got a positive ovulation test on day 17 and then a negative on day 18. I ended up getting AF a few days later so no success.

This month, I was put on 100mg of clomid and I've had positive ovulation tests day 16, 17, 18, 19 and again this morning! (day 20)

Has anyone else had a similar experience? I went into my doctor yesterday and she did an ultra sound and she said I definitely did ovulate, as she saw my corpus luteum on the ulatrasound. I asked her about the multiple positive ovulation tests and she said I probably ovulated more than once.

I'm really freaking out now that I'm going to have multiples! I might be reading into this but wanted to see if anyone else had this.

Thanks!

Clomid does increase your chance of multiples..not by much..but it does happen...and I had positive ovulation tests for a few days..it just means your close to ovulating and maybe you had trouble realeasing the egg.that's what I was told when I had a couple days of positive tests...but maybe you did ovulate more than once...but if she said you ovulated then you realeased the egg...so that's good news :) good luck Hun!

Can you get u/s monitoring earlier in your cycle so that you have some idea what is going on? That paired with a trigger shot would let you know you're BD'ing at the right time. I get false positive OPK's on Clomid (confirmed with u/s) and my BBT is an absolute disaster, so without monitoring and trigger shot I would have no idea what's going on.

As far as multiples, part of what Clomid is supposed to do it help you to ovulate more than one egg so you have a higher chance of conception. Most women on Clomid ovulate a couple eggs per cycle (or more). If everything else with you and your husband is absolutely fine and it's just a matter of ovulating, you have a 35% chance a month of becoming pregnant. If you do get pregnant on Clomid you have a 1 in 10 chance of having conceived twins. Couples with no fertility issues have about a 20% chance of conceiving per cycle because most of the time, only one egg is ovulated, and their chance of twins it about 1 in 40.

My RE likes to see 3-4 eggs in a cycle. To him, that is ideal. This has resulted in about one patient with triplets per decade, and the standard rate of 10% twins.

Usually doctors mention the possibility of multiples with Clomid. I'm surprised your doctor didn't give you a heads up before starting you on it.

Pinksprinkle

Can i just ask? If u release about 3 eggs on clomid. Do they all release on the same cd or spread out?
Ive been getting multiple +opk on different cds and think they must be false coz no temp rises but i was feeling strong o pain and v sore nipples.
When u say temp was disaster, what do u mean? Mine show no rise x

Most US doctors refuse to take a look at recent ovation studies coming out of Canada. From what the reports show, most women who are TTC naturally ovulate once a cycle with usually one, possibly two, eggs. Yet in about 7% of their patients, the scientists noticed a second ovulation, sometimes up to a week after the first one.

With three follicles, you would most likely ovulate them all at once (within a 24 hour time frame), or you may O once at the first surge and again up to a week later. To confirm O, your BBT must spike, any +OPK w/out a temp spike should be read as a false surge.

thank u. so i know i still havent ovulated yet. i just dont get why my nipples are so sore xxx

During the first half of your cycle, estrogen, lh, and fsh, surge at different points in time and the amount can be higher or lower, varying from woman to woman, and cycle to cycle. Different women react differently to each of these hormones (strangely, I get deleterious and spend the day crying when I'm in an LH surge, yet this is a very rare effect of LH). Sore nipples can happen at any point in your cycle where there are major fluctuation, depends on which hormones you're nips are sensitive to. I have had false LH surges with no O that have given me a day or two of breast tenderness.

The best thing to do is keep a calendar of you symptoms so that overtime you can see if you have a pattern that you generally go through at different times in you cycle. Who knows, maybe you have a random day of nipple pain 5 days before you O. Crazier things have happened. :winkwink: Or maybe you just always have several "pregnancy like" symptoms in every BFN cycle. Knowing what they are would allow you to not question then during the TWW.

Finally, if you think you did O but you're concerned that you're not seeing a big temp shift, you can wait a few days and get a day 21 progesterone draw. That will tell you for sure if you've ovulated or not.

Thank you for all the helpful information! My doctor did mention the possibility of twins, but with my history, she didn't think it would happen. I had my day 21 progesterone test level taken yesterday and it was a 6.71 and my doctor confirmed ovulation through an u / s !!! I haven't had positive ovulation in 2 years, so it's great news. I may have to go on progesterone supplements - we'll wait to hear what my doctor says today.

kt0123- Yayyyy!!!! :happydance: That is awesome news!!! After two years I am sure this is an amazing relief. I am so happy for you!

MrsBroodyPant- Hey congrats on the temp rise. :D I hope it stays up and you get your BFP.

Lots of :dust: to you both!
