Hi All

My fertility nurse rung me the other day and she said that they may put me on clomid. Now i thought clomid was for when u dont ovulate on ur own? I temp every month and it shows that i do ovulate on my own every cycle.
Can clomid have any other uses or can it make a better egg? I dont know much about clomid to be honest and if i do get put on it theres a chance ill be paying for it, so i want to be sure i wud actually benefit from it.

Anyone know much about this?

Thanks again xx

Id quite like to know this too?

Ive read up on it, and cant see any mechanism other than helping ovulation.

Id be very grateful if anyone knows anymore about it ;)

On the cost issue... lloyds pharmacy sell them at 35 pence each IF you have a private prescription for them.

I guess I can't really answer your specific question as to what else clomid does work for besides to help when a person is not ovulating, but I wanted to tell say that I am a firm believer that it works!!! My husband and I have been together for 10 years and never used any form of birth control. I had never gotten pregnant during all this time. Last November my husband had a sperm analysis done, came back normal. During this time I also had the hsg test done, came back normal. The doctor chalked the reason up to unexplained infertility, which is weird cause I have a 10 year old daughter! So he prescribed clomid for me to take it December. I took the 50 mg tablets on days 5-7. Later that month I got my BFP and I am now 38 weeks pregnant and due to be induced next week!!! So just from experience I would 100% say it is worth the cost of doing it. I did not have any side effects from the clomid, and would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Good luck with your journey through all of this. I know how maddening it can be.

That looks like its at cost price..its how much we buy them for at work.

Hi Ladies,

Clomid matures your eggs and stimulates your ovaries which may mean you ovulate more than once in any given cycle, I was on CLOMID for 4 months but had no luck unfortunatly! but i was on a high dose of 100mg so i am now trying 50mg days 3 to 7 and hoping we succeed this time.

I would give it ago because although i haven't concieved yet it has helped me ovulate.

gud luck xxxx

I was given clomid even though I ov'd on my own. I had v short cycles and my OB thought this might help lengthen the cycle. I took 50mg days 2-6, I was also being monitored by U/S and that cycle I produced 3 follicles! I also had IUI and I got my BFP. the cycle before we did the IUI without clomid and it was unsuccessful. I don't know if it was clomid that made the difference, but as I got 3 follicles, I guess it raised my chances by 3x. we had been TTC for nearly 2 years by this stage, without a sniff of a BFP.

I too was v worried about taking it - we always said we wouldnt' go down the fertility drug route. Following advice on here I took it at night right before I went to sleep as apparetnly that helps reduce side effects, and luckily I didnt' have any - apart from being ridiculously emotional one day. Good Luck!

HI Serendippy,

I also ovulate on my own and have no issues. My FS gave me clomid due to DH has low sperms - 15 mill. Clomid enhances ovulation and you may also produce more eggs. I just did one month of it however ended up BFN. i definately produced 2 eggs - but dh spermies didnt get to them...:cry:Heaps of ladies on here are using clomid due to male factor or unexplained fertitlity - give it a go - it may do the trick...good luck:hugs:

Clomid can also help with low progestrone. By making the follicles bigger or giving you more than one follicle.
My progesterone has been low, but ovulatory on my natural cycles. 50mg of clomid didn't get my progesterone high enough, but I am aprox 7dpo on a round of clomid at 100mg and just heard my progesterone was finally in the normal range!! :) Very hopeful for my BFP, had 4 follicles too so 4x the chances! :)

I know some doctors just let women try clomid to see if happens to help. They don't always think its important to know why you can't concieve, they just try to get you pregnant.
