How do you wash your LO's cloth diapers? I asked for opinions on Korean diapers (disposable) because you can get the big boxes of diapers similar to those in the states. Explaining as well that I was unsure if I wanted to try them or not because LO has sensitive skin and can only use (American) Huggies and Pampers so far.

A fellow mommy told me that I could always use cloth diapers and upon me explaining to her that I cannot do this as our washer/ dryer takes 4 hours / 1 load she said that she hand washes her LO's diapers and that if I really needed to do something about LO's sensitive skin I could do the same and just use them at home.

LO goes through about 10 – 12 diapers / day and MOST of the time we are at home. As I can barley keep up with the dishes and the laundry as it is I am honestly not wiling to add more stress, even if it means buying the more expensive disposable diapers at the PX. They don't break her out, it is just the store brand and luvs that break her out. Since we went to Huggies and now to Pampers she has not had a single rash.

Is it as much work as I am thinking it is?

If you post this in Natural Parenting you'll find loads of mums who can help :)

Yep. I am thinking that I am not willing to hand wash diapers though. If we were in the states it might be a different story :flower:

I tried with cloth with my first, but I have a big machine and it seemed it never worked out, ie not enough washing to do a load one day or feeling like I was always running it! In the end I stuck to disposables. I'm lucky as mine don't have sensitive skin, they can wear any kind which is great for special offers!
Hope you find something that works for you and your LO :)

I love my cloth, but if I had to hand wash them all they would be in the bin! No chance. :haha: What is it that takes so long, the washing or drying? We always hang the diapers up to dry since we don't have a dryer. We use microfiber ones and they dry overnight. The wash cycle does take a couple hours though, as we do extra rinses. In practice it's 2-3 extra loads of washing a week.

If what you're doing is working for you though, I wouldn't worry about it unless you really wanted to try cloth diapers. If you did want to try them I'm sure you could find a type that work. I agree, ask over in the Natural Parenting section. :flower:

I'd not hand wash cloth. It's apparently very very difficult to rinse them adequately which is crucial. I wouldn't have the time either.

Sounds like you have already answered your own question! If you haven't the washing facitities for cloth, and can afford to buy the disposable ones that don't break her out, then buy the disposable ones. Just cause some other mum does it doesn't mean it is right for you. Go with what works for you:thumbup:

Since Ms. Judgy McJudge is already hand washing her diapers ask her if she'll wash your 10-12 extra?:haha: Should be easy enough for Super Mom.:winkwink:

If you don't want to use cloth, then don't. If you can afford and don't mind buying disposables that work for your LO, then carry on doing that. If you want to use cloth, then I'm sure you could find a way that doesn't involve handwashing (I wouldn't handwash nappies either tbh). Our washing machine takes a good couple of hours on a nappy wash as I do a couple of rinses afterwards, and we don't have a tumble drier so I hang them to dry. It's not like it takes up hours of my day, it only takes the amount of time it takes to put the wash on and hang them, 'cuz it's not like I'm sitting watching it wash! :)

Thanks for your opinions everyone ! : ) We are going to costco next weekend to buy some diapers. I am super excited as they are great prices there, similar to cost co in the states (or sams club).

The washing takes 2 hours about and to dry (and actually get the clothes dry) takes that long as well ! I was debating just buying another washer and dryer (we have one in the states we were not allowed to bring over here ) and returning this one to the army as it is horrible!

I cloth diaper but I have a washer and dryer. I would not even consider doing cloth diapering if I didn't. Hand washing is crazy.

DD got a rash with Kirkland brand diapers too but is fine with Huggies and Pampers (I still use disposables for going out of the house)

I use cloth part time since I only have enough for one full day. I'm lazy too, I never put cloth on LO if he's due to do a poo lol... I had a poo cloth nappy once before and it was awful! I think when his poo starts being a bit more solid it will be better :haha: but ATM its pretty runny and not nice since I hand scrub poo stains before washing them.

If you don't want to use cloth then you're not being a bad mummy! Disposables are quicker, slightly easier (I don't find cloth awkward or difficult, I just don't like pooey cloth nappies lol), and hey! If they're working for your LO then why not carry on using them?? If you did want to try cloth, I started off using them just at night and moved on to using them just when I'm at home :) (if you did ever want to try cloth I suggest bumgenius and little lambs brands :D)

XxX

Do what is right for you hun. I use disposables as I only have a small house and no dryer, and felt that the house would look like a chinese laundry in the winter with nappies drying everywhere! I don't think it's right that another mum acts all "superior" on you though, just because you have very valid reasons for not doing what she does - not nice or supportive IMO x
