Which style of cloth diaper do you think is best? I just started researching them and I'm wondering why anyone would use the pocket style since the top layer that sewn in would always be dirty unless you wash it of course. What's the point of the pocket style cloth diapers, I get the inner absorbent liners can be removed but I feel dumb as to why anyone would chose this style, do I just not get it? Help.

We haven't used them yet as still pregnant but we have opted for fitted nappies
I did lots of research at little lamb nappies seemed to be Popular so we have those and they look fairly simple compared to many others

I am doing prefolds and covers and plan to buy some all-in-ones a little while after LO is here :)

pockets are cheaper (especially if you go used or go with ebay cheapies) than AIO's and dry much faster. when out and about, i prefer pockets b/c they make for a super fast change; at home, i prefer flips. :)

The pockets would just be like all in ones but more customizable absorbency and all the stuffing is contained (vs an all in one that would have like everything sewed in or having to add to that). But then it would dry faster because you don't have it all together like an all in one.

When I will be cloth diapering I'll likely try out a whole bunch, but I like the ideas of pockets or AIOs that have like only a partially sewn in absorbent bit so that they dry faster. Then for pockets you stuff them all, use them like a regular diaper and then when they're dirty/wet you just remove the insert before putting both parts into your pail or whatever. If that makes sense.

I haven't used any yet cuz I am WTT and just spying on other forums here lol. But I have watched loads of youtube vids about it.

I have clothed two kids. Omg, pockets IMO are the worst of it! We had a few all in one types, but mainly the absolute best is great quality prefolds with any covers you like. We used wool, flip, thirsties, blueberry, pretty much everything!

I didn't love bum genius, but it's convenient, always had the best luck with prefolds

I don't have experience yet - but have invested in trying G diapers

I haven't cloth diapered yet but I'm not at all interested in trying pocket diapers. I will be buying some Indian cotton prefolds with hemp and bamboo soakers/liners and Thirsties PUL covers. That seems to be the cheapest way to go.

The vast majority of my stash is pockets. They are easy to change, wash and dry. We also have a few all in ones and at night we use fitteds and wraps.

You don't re-use the outer with a pocket.

It's basically an AIO but they dry a lot faster as you completely remove the insert and you can choose what insert and how much you use to stuff them.

I have fitteds and covers for nightime/newborn but do have quite a few different styles of pockets to try, as they seem they'll be the easiest for others to use, and for when we're out and about.

We use AIO's and pockets. As others have said pockets dry faster and you can boost them to suit your needs. So if I've just changed DS and I know he's due to have a poo I'll only put 1 insert in but if we're out and about and I want it to last for ages I'll boost it more.
My favourite nappies are Tots Bots Easyfits as we get a good fit from them and the V4's dry pretty quickly. Plus you don't have to pull the inserts out which I find a bit of a pain with pockets.

Have you tried putting the pockets into the machine with the inserts still in?

I read online you could do and they'd work their way out.

I tried it when washing some that I was sent preloved, and they came out the machine separated by themselves. :)

Of course they were already clean though, I jsut like to wash pre-loveds when I get them. So not sure if they were dirty that they'd get as clean as if you dont separate them, but I can't see why they wouldn't. X

We decided to go with pockets. I have prefolds and covers for newborn sizes but then I have one size pockets for when he is bigger.

I don't have any experience with cloth diapering yet, but I had a chat with my friend who has been doing it for a year now and she said pockets are convenient and easy to use. I like the idea that they are much like disposables, meaning I will just take off the dirty one and put on a new one, but the dirty ones will go into the laundry rather than the garbage.

My friend also told me that you don't need to pull the insert out, that they wash out in the laundry so that seems pretty good too :)

I choose a few different types to try out, my favourites are the all in 1s and all in 2s I also have a few pocket nappies which I think arent as bad as they sound xx

I haven't clothed diapered yet, but I've been reading a lot about all-in-one's and I've picked up a few Thirsties Duo All in One diapers (6-18lbs) and bumGenius Freetime All-In-One (7-35lbs) and I love them based off styling and features. I am really excited to use them on my baby! I have heard a lot of great things about bumGenius from family members too so I feel good about my choice, but of course it depends on my baby!

You can't reuse the shell with pocket diapers the way you can with covers for prefolds or flips. I use mostly pockets because they're convenient (they go on just like a disposable does) and easy for lo's grandparents to use. I like that I can customize the absorbency by stuffing them as much or as little as needed. The ones I use (bumgenius 4.0's, which aren't the best out there but work fine for us) have a stay-dry layer against lo's skin so he's not as wet as he'd be with a prefold right against his skin.

I use prefolds and covers too, which are kind of the emergency back-ups if I haven't done wash (and gerber prefolds, pins and covers for REALLY big emergencies). They work wonderfully, they're just not quite as simple to put on a wiggly baby as a pocket!

We are waiting to try a few styles once lo arrives. Found a website in the UK (fill your pants) that does a trial for a tenner. So far I think the choice is pretty bewildering!

Pockets are the easiest to use IMO and have proven to be the most effective for us.

I'd suggest trying them as well as every style to see which you like best. I thought I'd prefer AIOs and fitteds but pockets are easily my favourites.
