So I know about and understand why sitting in hot water isn't good during pregnancy. What about cold water? I've been out boating and jet skiing but am unsure about whether or not it's ok to get in and swim in the lake water? The boat registered the water at 70-72 degrees fahrenheit. It'd sure be nice with these temps over 100 DAY AFTER DAY!!!!

It's okay to go swimming, don't worry so much. :)

I am not sure about the temp but what is in the water may worry me a bit bugs, viles disease etc etc. I know the sea is salt and has tides so moves about but am not so sure with lakes and resivoirs which I assume are more stagnant water (even rivers I'd avoid if it was me). Totally up to you but i'd give it a miss if it was me.

Hi Kimber,
I was wondering the same thing. I was feeling so uncomfortably hot and the sea looked really inviting, so I went for a dip. It was about 65F at the time (though now seems to have warmed up to 70F). I felt so guilty afterwards, worried that I'd hurt the baby, I did lots of internet research and it seems there isn't too much to worry about. As long as you don't stay in the water for ages and cool your core temperature down too much, you should be fine. I think the shock of getting into really cold water can cause contractions, but I doubt 70 F is cold enough for that. I also read that after your milk comes in, cold water can lead to clogged ducts/ breast infection. There were also some suggestions that sitting around in a wet swimsuit for to long could lead to UTI. So, a few things to think about and weigh up the pros and cons. Personally, I plan to continue swimming anyway, as I figure the benefits outweigh the potential drawbacks.

Yeah, I agree with elvee. so long as you don't stay in the water long enough to give yourself hypothermia, or start shivering (which is a good sign that your core temp is dropping) you should be fine.
