I've given my LO formula milka few times when I've been too sore or my reserves are running low - he's happy to drink it if needs be.

Anyway, I noticed that his colic seems much better after the forumla? So I've staretd giving him a big bottle of forumla each night before bedtime - it'll become part of his night time routine. The rest of the time it's 100% breast. So far - it's only been 2 nights - I've noticed a big improvement with his night time tummy aches and screams - anyone else noticed this? Or maybe it's just coincidence?

Oh - just so you know - I'd already cut out virtually all dairy (bar butter and the odd bit of choccie..) and all veges pretty much, give or take a carot or two.

I don't know what to tell you...:( Though colic is virtually unheard of in cultures where baby is exclusively breastfed many months, babies are worn, and they sleep with mama (who's diet is often very bland).

Hope things get better!

On a thought... what about caffine?

I removed caffine too after we just had a couple of troubling weeks and we've been MUCH better...

Whatever works for your LO.....Hope the colic gets better soon.Every baby is different.

I had the same question as you at one point. On the odd occasion when we gave my LO a bottle of formula, he seemed a lot happier and had less wind in his tummy.

After six weeks of breastfeeding my milk was just not enough for him. I tried various things to help it but nothing seemed to work so I gave up and went onto the bottle permantely. Since then his colic has been 10x better.

I wasn't eating dairy, caffience, green veggies or anything spicy so have no idea what he didn't like about my breast milk.

seems such a shame doesnt it!

He loves the boobie - its his favourite place to be - just he gets so windy! Poor mite. Lets hope it passes soon - OH and I have decided that the long term benefits should be worth a little bit of colic now but it seems so hard...poor little fella.

There are a lot of benefits to breast feeding especially the first 6 weeks it seems (if you read / listen to people). I was devasted to have to stop breast feeding, but when after a few days I had a much happier baby, I feel a lot better about it.

I think its us that misses them breast feeding more than they miss the boob. You feel so close to them.

Sorry to hear about this! He could have a sensitivity to something you eat and you may never know what it is.

If the formula before night is working, then go for it! Whatever makes him happy.
