Ava has quite bad colic and suffers with constipation and shes always straining and then crying and has horrible wind etc. i tried her on comfort milk but she was bringing most of it back, I would change her nappy an hour after feeding and watery cloudy milk would always come back up after every feed, she sleeps much better on comfort and seems happier but I'm scared she'll choke on her sick in the night etc so took her off it.

She's back on Aptamil first now and only possetts occasionally but she has a bad tummy again and is restless an not sleeping much during the night meaning I'm exhausted too.

Anyone else experience this with comfort milks? is it normal? does it settle down? Or does it mean it doesnt agree with her?

Usually babies are less sicky on comfort; as its thickened. My second youngest was very sicky (he had allergies and intolerances) and so I switched him straight from BF to comfort milk, his possetting stopped completely as soon as he was fully on it. Constipation and colic symptoms can also be caused by a sensitivity to cows milk (not the lactose; but the actual whey, casein or both) so it may be worth getting this looked into, especially as the comfort milk caused more possetting and your LO is uncomfortable on the normal milk too.

Hi hun,

I changed my little man from SMAGold to C&G comfort. To begin with he was much much better, hardly any sick, much happier after feeds etc, but 10 days down the line, I feel like I'm back at square 1! He is sick (cloudy milk acidy smelling) after every feed, even tho I have him upright to feed, is very uncomfortable afterwards (for atleast 2 hours), kicking legs and arching back, excessive hiccups and gagging. I'm also pulling my hair out... He had his 8w check and jabs today and after getting wuite upset in front of the doc have gaviscon to put in his feeds so will hopefully see a change in him from tonight (well probs tomorro as he had his jabs and is unsettled! lol).

When D is sick in the night (usually after throwing up on me and the bed atleast once before I put him back in his moses basket) he turns his head to one side and spews! He normally does it in the time it takes for me to hear the wrenching, turn the lamp on and find my glasses! but he does sleep better on it. I don't know if it dies down because it is still earlys days but wanted to share my experiences with you x

There's no need to worry about LO choking - she'll turn her head to the side if necessary. If she's happy on the comfort, I'd stick with that.

hey what are her poos like, runny or solid? if runny have you checked for lactose intolerance?
otherwise i suggest you stick with the comfort if she's happy on it, she'll turn her head to be sick! And you never know she might settle down on it after a while xx

on the comfort they're soft and loose which I've been told is normal x

I changed from sma gold to cow and gate comfort and it has helped with colic and constipation. How much are you feeding your little one, I used to feed little and often and that helped my little man was hardly ever sick but now since increasing ounces found he is sick a little more. Have you asked your gp about reflux? could be that, they will be able to prescribe something to help if they think it could be reflux.

Im combi feeding Ollie on Breastmilk and C&G Comfort but he is still colicky, I had a chat with HV yesterday and she said that Aptamil Comfort was gentler than C&G but I dont really wanna have to change milks again.

What do you reckon?

I just commented in the reflux thread about both milks re your post hun - I have a box of C&G comfort and Aptamil comfort and both have exactly the same ingredients and exactly the same measurements of each ingredient with Aptamil you're paying extra for the name so wouldnt bother changing him xx

I also doubt you'd see any difference between C&G and aptamil comfort.

I'm sure C&G and Aptamil are made by the same people?! Thats why I chose the c&G over A because I wasn't prepared to pay the extra £2 for the same product!
