I have a question to any of you who have taken clomid. I ovulate, however irregular. With my doctor giving me clomid to increase the chances of getting pregnant, will my chances of having multiples increase?? As I said, I do ovulate.. just irregular!! I have had 2 miscarriages. So I can conceive!! I can deal with having twins, but I am worried that I produce more than one egg and end up being pregnant with triplets or more!!

Can anyone offer any advice??

Thanks,

Hi Noma

Im not on Clomid but for me personally I wouldnt be worried at being pregnant with triplets or more, I think I'd feel blessed more than worried, probably because i've been ttc for so long, i'd be over the moon with anything.

how long have you been trying hun?

Hi noma

I am also on clomid some months i ovulate others i dont there is a risk with multiples mostly twins but alot of women have a single baby how many grams are u taking and what day

i took a test this morning has a very faint line so im hoping it has worked for me and not an evap

good luck hun

hi noma, i know its like a 10% chance or something of twins on clomid, personally iam excited about whatever it happens to be, i have wanted a baby for so long id be happy with however many babies i fell pregnant with aslong as they were healthy.
good luck hun, how much are u on? iam on 100mg so it increases it even more. the higher the doese, the higher the risk my doctor told me.

I am not on clomid yet. Have just spoken to DR about it. I am honestly more worried to have more than I can handle at one time. Just since I obviously already ovulate.. Just can't seem to stay pregnant! :-(

Will give it a few more months of trying before going on clomid. I just wanted to know if anyone was out there like myself who does ovulate but took clomid and ended up with multiples..

Hey Noma

Sorry to hear you have a history of m/c - understand why you are worried about multiples especially since they carry a higher risk of m/c.

Did your GP tell you what the odds were at all?

I know a good few people who have been on clomid - and none of them have had multiples. Sorry can't answer the question properly :hugs:

Not an exact odd no.. she just said that there was an increase chance of multiples..

I can handle twins.. but I think any more than that there are just so many complicated things that can happen and I don't want to have to deal with that!!

I agree chick - we are going for IVF so i know all about multiples! rolling around looking like a bowling ball will be the least of my worries! x

Its very, very rare to get pregnant with triplets or more on Clomid. Apparently, recent studies have showed it to be far, far less than 1 percent and that your chances are something like one in ten thousand.

^Agree'd. Clomid, contrary to popular belief, has little effect on the chances of multiple pregnancies. It does happen, but it's no more common in natural conceptions than it is in clomid ones. IVF is where the risks of multiples increase

Thank you all for your replies. It honestly does make me feel better and not so nervous of going that route as suggested by my Dr. I want a baby... I just don't want to have to worry about having a higher than normal risky pregnancy. Especially since I have already had 2 M/C in the past little while. I don't think I could handle it at this point!!

Thank you so much. YOu have been a great help!

I think it varies depending on your circumstances. It does increase your chance if you have no risk factors by 7% for twins, and 0.5 % of triplets (on the Clomid box), but that increases further if you are over the age of 30, or have twins in the family (I am a twin), or have PCOS, because apparently PCOS & Clomid can increase your chances. I ovulate on my own, but, like you, I m/c due to low progesterone, so I was prescribed Clomid. I got pregnant in September (m/c) and the u/s report showed that I ovulated from both ovaries-so my OB siad it was quite likely twins.

the "risk" increases on clomid but i dont know anyone that's fallen with multiples

We've just been told we may be going on clomid in the new year and were warned of the risk of muliples. Haven't read the leaflet yet to get more info though
