Concerns about Elective C-S

Hi Everybody -
So for as long as I can remember, I've been of the mindset that elective c-s was the way to go. None of the "natural" aspects of vaginal birth enticed me and the horror stories of back labor and tearing were enough to sway me. As time went by I suffered a hip injury which made c-s a medical consideration. Furthermore, the way things are progressing - I'm pregnant with a little girl (my first) who's two weeks big for her age (compared to average) and a marginal previa that needs to be monitored. So all in all, all signs pointed to just going with an elective c-s to reduce the risk of needing an emergency one.
But the closer I get to the big day... the more I start to doubt my decision, mainly for one reason: I'm afraid of being drugged up and loopy when I first meet my little girl or for the first few days of her life. I was wondering if anyone else who went w/an elective c-s could tell me if this was an issue for them, either right after delivery or due to the pain meds after. 95% of what I find online are stories from women who had emergency c-s and I'm not sure if that's entirely the same. And doctors I've spoken with so far seem a little vague on the topic.
Also, let me clarify that if I went vaginal, I am definitely going with an epidural - so it's not like I'd be completely free of drugs the other way. Is there a difference between the drugs they give you for elective c-s vs. vaginal w/epidural?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide! :flower:

i had a c section, it was a emergency toget him out but not a rushed job if u get what i mean. I didnt feel too drugged during it or afterwards, only tired but i had been worrying for a week whether my baby would live or not! The morphine they gave me afterwards made me sleepy but im sure if i had a baby with me screamin i wud have been clearly awake. I remember everything rele clearly, i didnt feel ' drugged' at all. Im considering another c section this time. for me the op wasnt a bad experience

I didn't feel drugged at all, I felt quite normal. I felt less with it when I had contractions before my section. Nothing affected my time with my little girl when she was born apart from not being able to hold her straight away as I was shaking from the spinal ad I was too scared I would drop her, but that was just me and I got cuddles as soon as they had finished stitching me up and I was in the bed being wheeled to recovery. I was then awake until about 11pm that night, had been awake since 9am the previous day, as the adrenaline from having her kept me awake and I couldn't stop staring haha x x

I had an elective CS due to praevia last time round...you defo arent drugged up!! you wont feel anything from below yr boobs to yr feet, but that wears off soon after, but certainly no drugged up feelings. No more so than gas and air anyway ;-)
