right, this is really doing my head in!

the past couple of days LO has been a fussy eater and so i've been closely watching exactly how much she takes.....but this is confusing me....

she's been taking 5oz bottles (so 1 scoop of formula for each fl oz = 5 scoops)

so you put the water in first up to the 5 fl ozs mark, then you put the 5 scoops in - this takes it up to nearly 6.

so - when i'm counting ounces - if its been up to 6 and is now sitting at 4oz does that mean she's taken nearly 2 or just 1?

another example - if there's 1 ounce left, has she had 4 ounces or nearly 5?

it makes my head hurt!!

thanks :)

Go by the scoops Hun!!! If you make a 5oz bottle then when she stops it's only at 4oz that means she's only taken 1oz!!! Lol xx

scoops!! once you get up to 7/8 oz scoops the bottle fills up nearer 9!!!!! sccops for sure xx

oh my god..I think this too! i don't know either but have often wondered. My greedy guts will 9 times out of 10 polish the lot off anyway so I don't let it worry me but it has in the past. xxxxxxxx

It all depends on the brand of formula. My formula is Enfamil, and it's only 2 scoops for 4 oz, and 2 1/2 scoops for a 5oz bottle. I've never heard of a formula that is 1scoop per oz.

I was thinking this too! Our LO has been really slow to take to feeding so we've been obsessing about every 5mls!

I asked our midwife and she said we need to go with the inital water level. Therefore if we fill it to 4oz and the powder takes it up till nearly 5oz we need to count it as a 4oz bottle. Not 100% convinced myself though as we've been using Ready to Feed and apparently 4ozs of that qualifies as a full 4 ozs - seems a bit inconsistent!

My formula is 1 scoop per oz x

in the us, i think all of our formula powder is one scoop per 2ozs of water. then again our ounce is bigger that you guys too. LOL we have avent bottles and there are us and uk ounces on them. there is no way we can do a half a scoop because of the way the scooper is shaped. so we have to make bottles in 2oz increments or do a big pitcher and try to divide accordingly. which is quite confusing because of how 4ozs really makes MORE than 4ozs. i just stick to doing it in the 2oz increments and added the scoops afterwards. too scared i would get confused and mess up if i tried to make a big pitcher of it!
