I went to get a few last minute bits last night and thought I'd pick up a tub of Aptamil, just in case I end up not breastfeeding...it's the "first best infant milk, from birth onwards"... anyway when I got home I noticed on the tub it says words to the effect of "only to be used if recommended by a midwife, doctor or healthcare professional"....

Does this mean it's not the same as the other formula milks like cow and gate and sma and the rest of them? Should I take it back?

It only says that because they have to. The government is pushing BF really hard, and wants people to talk to health professionals about their decision to FF, presumably so they can try and talk you out of it! All formulas say it.
I couldn't BF, Ruby just didn't 'get' it, breastfeeding counsellor was no help so we gave formula. We didn't ask a health professional first!

It'll be absolutely fine to use if you do end up bottle-feeding chick xx

aptimal is fine to use from birth, i only breastfed for the first week as zane just didnt take to it so i went straight onto aptimal and have never had a problem with it.

Snap - could have wrote that myself!

i chose SMA origionally and then had one very sick baby in SCBU so they health proffessionals chose to switch aly to aptimil (which i'd never heard of) lol thats the only intervention a health proffessional has had to do with aly's feeding decisions! :) its fine to use from birth if you chose that formula!

xxx

St Johns have Aptimal and SMA in one use glass bottles so if BF doesn't work out then you will be allowed to use these. I was even given some to take home!
