confused about nappies. help?!

Hi all. I'm hoping someone can help me with my nappy confusion.

To start, I've got about 10-12 Kushies (second hand). Finding more seems to be harder than I thought. So then I started looking for other brands, but need to find something on the cheap. So after that, I thought i'd look into making my own ( i have 5 weeks off before baby comes, and i'm feeling crafty!) I've find a few "how to's" online, and it seems doable.

So what are the different components required? A liner, a cover, and a waterproof cover? The waterproof cover seems a bit silly, as it would cover up the lovely nappy I just made. Are there any other bits I'd need?

Anyone have any experience with making their own?

I'm no expert as never made nappies myself but yes traditionally, liner (tho optional) nappy and wrap. maybe source your own PUL outer? I do know fill your pants sell packs on making nappies, not sure exactly that they contain but maybe worth a look?
