My dr had me have one this cycle at cd21 and I didn't ovulate, I have irregular cycles and have been charting for two cycles and have no evidence of ovulation along with the cd21 blood test. In on cd30 on my 3rd day of spotting and my shortest cycle in the 2 years since having my son and when i called and spoke to a receptionist she asked the dr and she said get it done 7 days before my period is due...how on earth am I meant to know when that is :/ last cycle was 53 days long.

i have irregular cycles you need to do opks and once you have a positive keep testing and count day 1 after your last positive so it is basically day 1 on your first neg after a few positives - thats what my doc said to do just get a load of wide opks from amazon a massivepack so you can do a few a day x

I haven't ovulated the past two cycles that's the problem so I can't even do that x

That sucks. I wasn't sure if I ovulated or not so my Dr just had me go in for the test Monday, and I had to have it redrawn today because it wasn't high enough Monday. We're both hoping that we just caught it to too early. Will your dr reorder it for you a few days later if it's not high enough? I guess I'm lucky that my ob specializes in infertility so she's more understanding and helpful with that stuff.

I really don't know I didn't even get to speak to her she just told the receptionist that I had to do it 7 days before my period is due but she knows I'm irregular, I'm still spotting so I'm still not even cd1 yet, the whole thing is stressful.

How irregular are your cycles? Are there any patterns?

It's silly to expect you to do it a certain number of days before AF. If you're temping or doing OPKs, do it 7 DPO. If you're not ovulating according to your method of tracking, try and work out some patterns and do your best. Or ring the nurse and tell them that you really have irregular cycles and have no idea. They might give you a few blood test forms and get you to test over a few days/weeks.

No there's no pattern whatsoever, I'm hoping to get a referal after this blood test to someone expierienced in this type of thing. There must be a reason why I'm not ovulating x

To be honest, I'd just do the blood test whenever. Probably after CD 21. If you know you're not ovulating, it's really not going to matter, it's going to show low progesterone throughout. If they're going to refer you to a specialist, just do the test and let someone who (hopefully) knows what they're talking about look into it further.
