hi all

so i finally had an appointment with my GP to talk about my cd21 test results, he basically said that i definitely have PCOS, which i already knew, and that it didn't look like i ov'd this cycle, which i did suspect. he then told me i would need to lose weight and gave me a months supply of metformin and said to stay in touch.

what I'm confused about is why exactly ha gave me metformin, I've seen that a few others on here are taking it, was wondering if you could tell me your doctors reasoning behind giving you it?

and also would i need to make another appointment before the supply I've been given has run out?

I'm sorry if they seem like really stupid questions, its just my Dr didn't really explain much to me except about the PCOS which i already knew as he has told me every time i go to see him.

would appreciate any help anyone could give.

Sorry Wendyb, I cant really give you much advice but I would maybe give him a call and ask him to explain. At the end of the day its his job and youve come out being non the wiser!
Someone on here might be able to give you some advise on it hun and I hope everything goes ok.

Metformin is a drug commonly used to reduce the symptoms and effects of PCOS. Apparently it helps to regulate a menstrual cycle and assists in the balance of hormones which, in turn, gives a better environment for a possible pregnancy.

A lot of women with PCOS are prone to weight gain, which in itself affects fertility, and some only have to lose weight to fall pregnant. It's a conservative management, in a sense, and I suppose your doctor is putting you on metformin and telling you to lose weight because these things might help you get pregnant without the need for further intervention.
