I was diagnosed on Tuesday with GD after a GTT last friday.
My results come back at 8.0 when the cut off is 7.8 so I am only borderline.
I seen a specialist yday who gave me a sugar monitoring kit and for the past 24hrs I have monitored my sugar levels and ate when I am supposed to.
I am just really confused as to the results I have had...

I tested first whilst with the specialist yday around 2pm, I had last ate around 11:30am and my results were 4.0,
I then went out for a birthday tea last night and my results were 4.0
1 hr after tea and eating a piece of chocolate bday cake they were 2.8
then before bed approx 1.5hrs later it was 5.1

This morning before breakfast they was 3.3
Before lunch 3.1

They are ment to be between 4-6 and now i am starting to worry!
Can anyone help!!..

Being a type 1 diab, your sugar levels seem low (or normal for non diabs - I don't know what normal is for non diabs!)!! Did they put you on any medication or is it diet controlled? When is your next appointment? I suggest you go over as soon as you can.

It is diet controlled at the minute but I am due to see someone else at the hospital on Tuesday morning. Ive just gone threw it all with my mum who is trying her best to help and she said its as if I havent got GD...I even chocloate cake n custard after my tea last night and it was still on 2.8 1 hr later.
Suppose im just best monitoring it until tuesday which will give 5 days worth of readings and then they will be able to tell me...

2.8 1h after chocolate cake seems very low to me. The others before lunch I would not worry. During pregnancy your levels do decrease and my endo said that normals levels in pregnancy are between 3.5 and 5.5 before meals. So 3.3 just tell me you probably just went a little too long without food. But 2.8 is a more serious hypo and I would try to speak to your doctor/diabetes nurse about that. But normally they don't worry much if you are not in any medication.

That is odd - someone else on the gd support thread has the same problem. Could your machine be off?

I am boarderline and don't have to alter my diet much. Just try not to go mad and I am fine.

I'm the person on GD support thread having a similar problem! I got 8.3 on my first GTT, and had it redone on Weds and got 7.8. All my blood tests have been fine, or lower than they should be. When I saw diabetes team on Monday they said they weren't interested in my low results and just wanted me to carry on on restricted diet and keep testing. Saw my ante-natal consultant this morning who was far more concerned as I'm feeling rubbish with the low blood sugars. Have been referred to another consultant now to see if they can work out why my sugars are so low so more waiting. Am back to see diabetes team on monday (and hopefully being discharged from them then) - will let you know if I find out any more.

Anything below 3.5 is quite low - becoming hypoglaecimic can be just as dangerous as hyper. I would go back to the doctor and explain. Better safe than sorry xx

I am eating every 2-3 hours where as i would normally eat every 3-4 hrs...Il keep testing till I see the specialist on tuesday and see wot they say...thanks for all ur help!
