I have a 3month old baby boy who i have been exclusively breastfeeding up until last week, i have now introduced his last bottle of the day as a formula feed, for 2 reasons really, to see if it will help him to go longer through the nite and to start getting his tum used to some formula for when we switch over at about 6 months. Well it wasnt really heping him to go longer thru the nite until the last 3 nites, he has gone from his previosu longest period of 5hours sleep to the full nite of 9hrs, i just cant believe it. Only problem is ive been so poorly with the flu so hardly been sleeping myself anyway, ive just had about enough energy in the day to still breastfeed. Well he usually, has a 7-8am ish feed, 11-12ish feed,3-4ish feed, topup at 6-6.30ish, then last feed as formula at 10-11ish. He always seems happy and satisfied but my mum had him today and hes been so hungry........ he had BIG 7am feed(as he'd gone 9hrs in nite), a little top up which he was rooting for at 8.30am, mum picked him up, he had a 7oz formula feed at 11.30 (only usually has 6oz but as theirs more in a carton i just said to offer it to him) he had a deep sleep from 2-5 (was in the garden tho) he had an expressed 6oz bottle at 5 but gulped in down and was looking for more, mum offered formula(again it was a carton) he had 4oz, half hour break then has another 2oz, so 12oz in an hour, then got home to me and was rooting so had a 10min feed (could of been for comfort as he'd missed me, hes asleep now but will hopfully wake around 11.30 for his last feed. as out of routine today, he doesnt usually just have milk for the sake of it and certainly lets us no when he's had enough!!

Sorry for this huge post but i would really appreciate and feedback, i love feeding and am definetly not ready to give up yet but is he getting enough. If i have missed a feed and express i can usually get 3oz from each breast so am not drying up yet!! Should i offer every other feed throughout the day as formula (dual feeding) or should i offer cool boiled water in between feeds, and advice would be good

Thanks

Lisa

p.s- ignore my tickers, i need to get rid of them at some point, haha!! Just so wrong.xx

He may just be going through a growth spurt, I remember reading somewhere that they have them at three weeks, six weeks and three months. I remember that my LO was ravenous at three weeks for about three days or so. I would just continue to feed him on demand for now, your BM will increase the more you feed so you should have enough.

Also, The doctor told me that in the first five months they should gain an ounce a day and then after that they should be gaining 5 ounces per week. So if you weigh him regularly you can tell if he is getting enough.

hope that helps :)
