Has anyone went from breastfeeding to formula when there babies were newborns ?? did it cause any issues for there babies ?? I'm considering switching to formula for many reasons, i just dont know what to do .....

I switched on day 3 and it was the best decision I've ever made with her.
It didn't cause any issues, it solved them!

I know your LO is a little older than that but tbh I think babies find bottle feeding 'easier' so I don't think it'd be a problem. x

Its your decision... bottlefeeding is easier, the baby doesnt have to work to get as much...

I had to switch my Daughter at a young age as she would not keep Breastmilk down so ended up on formula then Infasoy. She had no problems with the switch and as said above think they actually prefer it as its easier!.

I switched on I think day 3, maybe 4 it was after my milk came in. Liss wouldn't stay on for long enough so I was advised to top up, although I did combination so she had 10 mins on booby then formula.

I switched at 4 weeks and have had no problems, but Olivia is a hungry little thing and will take anything you give her x

I just switched this week, Annie is 5 weeks old, from breast and formula to just formula and Annie is much more satisfied after meals.

I think were both finding formula feeding easier and have been able to get into more of a routine.

i stopped at a few days, 1, he could not get on properly most of the time 2, he was always hungry never stopped even when expressing, a 4oz bottle would not be enough for him but 3oz of formula would settle him :dohh:

I switched when Claire was 3 weeks old. She would only take one breast, and was a massive biter. Ouch. :( She definitely wasn't getting enough from me. Switching was okay, I mixed the breast milk and formula for a bit to give her tummy time to get used to it, and then gradually added more formula as time went on. She didn't get constipated or anything. :)

Do what's best for you, if you feel that switching to formula is better then go for it. Although if you are needing help with BF'ing there's TONS of ladies in the breastfeeding section who'll help you in a heartbeat!

:hugs: I know it's not an easy decision.

My BF baby is currently FF while I take medication (we made the switch cold turkey) and I've noticed that he's having trouble pooping since FF poop is quite different. So if you're going to make the switch, go for it but do it gradually. I feel so bad for my little man when I see him straining and crying but we had no choice :(

thanks ladies for all your thoughts, I really appreciate it .:hugs:

I had no choice but to switch because my LO wasnt gaining anyweight because he was burning calories sucking on me all day and night , he was never getting enough from breastfeeding so he was stuck on me all day, so now we are on formula and he seems to actually get full after a feeding and seems to sleep better too and he did gain some weight and we go back to the pediatrician again tomorrow, the only thing i notice with formula is alot more spitting up after a feeding and the poop is alittle different .

Hi hun I breastfed my son for 4 months but I started giving him 1 bottle of formula at his last feed at night I found he slept for longer he started sleeping through the night from 3 weeks old the formula fills them up for longer but breastfed on all the other feeds, and its true what they say it honestly gets easier as time goes by x

I switched when Grady was 3 weeks. For the first day I did half and half to try and ease him into it a bit, but then I was put on a heavy duty antibiotic for a sinus infection, so I had to stop. That and we believe he has a lactose intolerance.

He was a little fussy for the first day or 2, but I think that was more his body getting used to formula, cause his poops slowed down!

If it's because you're struggling with it, the girls over in the bf'ing section have a lot of great advice, especially Mervs Mum! She's like the bf'ing cheerleader over there! :)

Bottle feeding is easier, I won't lie. Anyone can feed the baby, giving you breaks at night, etc. Plus, you've given him nearly 3 weeks of breast milk, and that's great!!! :)
