I'm pretty sure she's constipated. She had a hard nugget pooh in her nappy this morning, has cried and screamed for 2 days and nights and won't settle and looks in pain/uncomfortable. This is her 2nd day being exclusively formula fed as I was combination feeding but due to an infection in my tear down there from the birth I'm now on antibiotics so have been advised not to give her BM and as she wouldn't latch properly I was expressing so it just seemed easier rather than expressing then throwing away as expressing alone is a full time job x

I give our little girl Phoebe some boiled water that has been cooled down.

I give her 2oz between her feeds, it has worked really well.

You can also try gently massaging your little ones tummy.

if you are using a formula that is high in iron you might want to consider switching to a lower iron version (or no iron) as the iron in formulas can cause constipation in some babies :hugs:

SMA gave my baby really bad constipation so i had to switch to Aptamil which has made her soo much better-if anything she poo's too much now ;haha:

But when she was constipated i did give her cooled water, about 1-2 oz's everyday x

My LO was constipated but wouldn't take cooled boiled water alone, she just grimaced and spat it out. At her 6 week check the baby doctor told me to mix 8oz of cooled boiled water with 1/2 a teaspoon brown sugar, she takes it no problem now. He said that health visitors and midwives don't recommend this but he said its an old trick that works and does them no harm!

My dr told me to use sugar water, but the well child help line said that isn't really recommended and to give 50ml cool boiled water with 5ml apple, orange or prune juice in it up to 2x per day after feeds.
