I recently stopped BFing and put my LO onto a bottle,I was giving him C&G number 1 but it didnt seem to keep him full and he was feeding every 2 hours or more so I put him on the hungrier baby one on saturday but the past few days he has been a bit constipated-he has done a few little poos but they have been quite solid and he obviousley has to strain to get them out,I have tried giving him water in between feeds, the first time he had taken an ounce before he realized it wasnt milk but now he won't fall for it and refuses it,any ideas ladies??! Can I give him anything to help?

Hi, I had this problem as well. LO went onto C+G2 quite early on, about 7 weeks old as the C+G1 just wasn't filling her up. It is much richer and heavier than C+G1, hence the constipation. LO's nappies were like little pellets, although she wasn't straining or in any visible distress when she filled her nappy.
I got around the problem by making each bottle up with an extra quarter ounce of water. So if I wanted to make a 5oz bottle, I would put in alittle extra water and then the usual 5 scoops of formula. You don't need to add too much extra water to see a difference.
Now we have begun weaning, she is still quite constipated but I believe this is a family trait that she is just going to have to live with. (Her daddy has had the same problem since childhood!) I give her prunes for breakfast everyday, she loves them as they have naturally occurring sugars in them, so they taste alittle sweet. That guarantees us a full nappy daily!

Ok thankyou-thats a good idea about the water really because that way I can get a little extra water down him without him realizing lol

Yeah, exactly. My LO didn't like to drink water at first but a few weeks later I tried again and now she loves it.

Also, whereabouts in Bham are you from? Im from Northfield, but I live in Bucks now.

Im from Marston green-its right by the Airport and NEC,We moved in may to near Tamworth, near drayton manor but are now looking to moving back again lol I don't drive and feel cut off from everyone here! How come you moved?

ps Jake just filled his nappy lol tmi I know!!

I know Marston Green, I used to work at Kingshurst Academy. I left Bham a couple of years ago when I got married, and I've just sold my house in Northfield so that's my last tie cut! I miss the shops in town though!

Only thing i can think of has been mentioned maybe she's not a "hungry baby" and it's a bit rich for her but the number 1 feed not satisfying enough? I would try number 2, or maybe a different formula i know someone that said they went through 3 different types before they found one that suited baby.

How old are they? coz obviously if LO is 7-8wks maybe it's just the number rather than the formula brand iykwim?

My lo was on C&G 1, same as you it wasn't filling him, put him onto hungry milk, made him really constipated so switched back to C&G 1, made him really sickso we are now on Aptimal comfort, seems to be doing fine, fingers crossed!!!!

My son was constipated when he was teeny and the midwife told me to give him cooled boiled water with a couple of drops of freshly squeezed orange juice. Like literally, 2 drops to 4 oz water squeezed straight into the bottle from an orange segment. It worked :)
It might be worth trying him on a different formula. I always got told to never add more water to the feeds, it should only be made exactly according to the instructions.

hiyaaa the h/v told me to put litterally a few drops of pure orange in to the water, it can help with constipation and sweetens the water, so she may take it.
Other than that baby massages are supposedly good for it too

I googled home remedies for constipation once when LO hadn't had a nappy for a couple of days. Brown sugar in tap water was the cure, so I gave it a go (even though I hated the thought of sugar going into her mouth) It totally worked!

i put a tiny bit of suger in an ounce of boiled water-seems to work:)x

Thanks for your advice girls-he's okay now.I think it was just because Id changed the formula and his body had to get used to it.I do give him cooled boiled water throughout the day now aswell though.xx
