Contractions or round ligament pain?

Can't believe I'm making a 'are these contractions' thread with my second, would have thought I'd know by now, but hey ho!

All day I've been getting sharp stabbing pains in my lower stomach. Thing is they're only on one side. I get them about every five minutes. If it was both sides I would assume early labour or strong pre-labour BH, but it's just on the right?

I have been crampy and lost my mucus plug yesterday morning (though with it being my second and still having no baby I'm wondering if it wasn't my plug, but at the same time I'm almost certain?!), but no other symptoms. With my first contractions didn't make my tummy go hard and didn't start in my back, and they didn't get more regular until he was about an hour from being born, so the usual tell-tale signs obviously aren't reliable for me.

I'm only asking because I've planned a home birth and we're painting the living room (birth room) today and everything is a mess so if it is labour I need warning to tidy it all up!

So, any ideas?

If it's only one sided I'd say it's more likely to be ligament pain, but keep an eye on them as I may be wrong, especially if they're coming and going regularly.

And dw, I'm on my 5th and know I will still make a thread like this nearer to the time x

If it's stabby pain I'd contact your midwife and just let her know, could be nothing, but I had these pains as well as contractions in labour, and it was detached placenta, as I had bloody waters.. Just phone and make sure, x

Oh gosh that's worrying Whatme! Was everything okay?

Yes everything was fine, as I was already in active labour, and being constantly monitored, everybody panicked when I had red waters though! They said it just started to detach, and it feels like a stitch when working out, or a stabbing pain.. Which is also the same as round ligament pain.. Confusing! But I had slowed down movements too. So they paid attention. Scary but I had a healthy baby boy weighing 8lb 10oz so my placenta worked just fine up until then, x

Glad everything was okay!

Pain in one side eased off last night. I was getting proper contractions every six minutes until 4am and feeling really unwell all night. Finally got to sleep and now nothing at all except exhaustion and feeling very very sick. I am guessing that means that it probably was just ligament pain.
