General chatter while we wait (and commentary on the "pull out method")

Gigs ohhhh my goodness he is so cute. I’m sorry his oxygen has been a bit of a roadblock. Prayers that it resolves soon and he gets to come home ASAP :hugs:

Keep the baby photos coming (when you get a chance), it’s a great distraction from the fact that I’m bleeding heavily :haha:

So I’ve been using a menstrual disc because it’s so convenient, I don’t have to carry around tampons, it just empties out when I bear down on the toilet. Anyway, after doing that, I took it out all the way to rinse it out (I try to do that like twice a day), and after rinsing it I realized the bathroom sink drain was blocked. There was a frickin 2 inch long clot/uterine tissue blocking the drain. I had to pull it out. Womanhood is… interesting.

@gigglebox Congratulations!!! He’s so precious! I’m sorry he had some NoCU time, but hopefully it’s brief and you both get to go home soon. You did amazing!

Congratulations!!! Wow he is such a cute baby. I'm sorry he had to go to the NICU, I hope he is 100 percent soon and gets to go home right away!! And go easy on yourself too, you've been through a lot. Hope you are recovering well.

awww congratulations, im sorry hes in the nicu, i know how hard that is, i hope you can see the only plus sign is hopefully you get chance to rest abit. hes a cutie though! i saw it alot in my nicu babies coming from section and needed oxygen for a day or two then are usually fine
they just like to be extra cautious. try get as much skin to skin as you can it will help with the bonding and milk side of things

Thanks @RedRose19 I’ve been thinking of you during this time. How are you and little miss?

Baby is still in NICU but making forward progress we hope. He is unfortunately mostly under a helmet so we haven’t gotten to hold him as much as I wish I could. I have had a couple chances though which I have loved but most of the time he has to lay under the “space helmet”.

Milk is coming in which is great for baby but also really uncomfortable for me…I need him to get the hindmilk out, otherwise my boobs are just super firm up top. Alas, for now I’m pumping and hand expressing bedt I can.

Gigs is there a reason they can’t give him a nasal cannula so that you can hold him for extended periods of time? I’m just wondering if there’s a way :/ if they haven’t mentioned it, it could be worth asking?

So this is a “lower level” nicu and they actually don’t have the nasal cannula. They have one cpap in OR for urgent needs (which he sis briefly use) but none in nicu. Actually the nurses as well as the ped doctor were lamenting to me how they’ve been waiting for nearly 7 months for one (that’s when they were told they would be getting a machine or two). Super frustrating!

I did get to hold him a little early this morning while a nurse held a mask near his face…

But best update is I got to feed him this morning myself and he’s been off the oxygen for awhile now, going on 4+ hours which is the longest yet [-o< he’s resting now and they’ll call me back for his next feeding. If he can make it through the feed and remains off the oxygen, he can come back to our room and hopefully we can all be out of here tomorrow!

So things got worse and Finn’s been transferred to a better NICU. We are here now and they are running a barrage of tests. We’ll know more in the coming days. I’m sitting nearby him pumping, they won’t let him breastfeed tonight but hopefully tomorrow. Hubby’s about to bottle feed him.

More deets later. But this shit is hard y’all.

Im so sorry you’re enduring that gigs. Prayed for you tonight.

Thank ladies .
Thinking of you @RedRose19 —you're one tough mama! This isn’t for the weak!

So Finn has a few tests going for infant seizures, lung immaturity, and infections. I should know more today. It does however look like his lungs weren’t fully mature at birth. His case manager said they look like premie lungs (and his symptoms are like that of a premie). She said despite his GA, he is still considered early, and some would call it “late preterm”. This would be a best case scenario as it’s just time to heal it. We’ll just have to wait and see though. Hes also on a broad spectrum antibiotic while we await results on possible infections.

This has been a week from hell…..well a few days anyway. On the plus side, I personally am ok. I’m definitely sore and just managing pain with tylenol and advil but I don’t want the oxy because I’m drowsy/dopey enough feeling with the sleep deprivation and emotional fatigue.

Thanks all for listening. I don’t feel like explaining everything to people I actually know “irl”.

im sorry you have to go through this, i was in the nicu with willow for 3 weeks, she had seizures so its good they are checking him for that, the sooner they treat for that the better. we have been home since easter weekend thankfully. but we have had to go for weekly weigh ins and head check
i hope he just needs time to adjust to the outside world which can happen with a c section esp f they are before their due date
