Posted this elsewhere too.

I've made the switch from breast to bottle today and my boobs are incredibly sore and full. Now my lc told me that in order to prevent mastitis I must express and gradually reduce until I basically stop causing my supply to stop.

The midwife and hv have said to wear a bra as tight as comfortable and leave alone.

What's been your experiences? Which is the right thing to do?

Thanks xx

I stopped feeding at 6 days old so wouldn't be as full as you, but I left mine well alone but didn't wear a tight bra. I had a tight vest top on with breast pads in place to stop the leaking through. After about 3/4 days my boobs totally emptied just from the normal leaking that happened naturally. I wouldn't play around with them as I think it will make you sore & will carry on filling assuming the expressing you are doing is the baby eating. I'm not an expert though lol, just my experience! xx

I FF DD2 from the start and I thought it would be best to just wear a comfy bra and leave well alone. After all breast milk is produced on a supply and demand basis so once my body realised my boobs weren't being emptied then it would stop producing the milk. I think my boobs stopped being sore on about day 8-9pp?? Cant remember exactly but the pain wasnt that bad and didnt last for long. xxx

Yeah, i had to switch to formula after a few days and was told under no uncertain terms by midwife, health visitor and mum to leave my boobs well alone, wear a good bra and dont even be tempted to hand express to relieve pressure (as tempting as it may be). Any sort of expression will stimulate more production. it'll take a good week or so for all the milk to totally disappear and you will leak a fair amount but the fullness only lasted a few days in my experience xx

I stopped at 1 week, i hand expressed twice a day for about 15 seconds on each boob, it was painful/uncomfortable for around 1 week, 3 weeks after i'd stopped they were back to normal (though i still leaked a tiny bit) x

I stopped at 3 weeks, didn't do anything else, had heavy boobs for a few days and stopped leaking after about 2 weeks. x

I expressed when I felt sore. I needed to express less and less every day until I didn't need to at all. That took about 5 days I think though I had low supply which was why I stopped in the first place.

I was told to leave alone. It was very uncomfortable for a few days, but then settled down

I stopped after 2 weeks and was told to leave them well alone but when mine leaked they really did pour. I didn't need to hand express just hold a bottle under my boob  mine took around 2 weeks to feel better x

I'm the same they literally pour when I take off my bra!! But it aches when I let it happen. I had to sleep sitting up last as the weight of them felt like they were crushing me lol. And Ive got back ache from them.weighing me down!! Is this what a boob job would feel like haha? Xx
