Hi,

I'm 5 weeks and 4 days pregnant. My first beta at 14 dpo was 102, my 2nd beta at 21 dpo was 3,137. I've been using first response tests every day since I got my BFP at 10po. At one point the control line started getting lighter. First response told some lady that it was because the hcg was so strong the test line was sucking dye from the control line. The problem is the last 3 days that control line got stronger again. The last 3 belong to the same box. I don't have my 1st ultrasound until 1 week from now so Im going crazy. Anybody went through this and got her hcg levels tested? or any thoughts? I've attached a picture. The top one is when my levels were 3,137. The bottom one is today's, 25 dpo.

Thanks ladies! xoxo

I don't see the picture, but I have heard the whole "sucking up all the dye" thing two and it doesn't really make sense to me. I mean, there is ALWAYS supposed to be a control like, so there should be enough dye to turn both lines nice and pink. I'm driving myself crazy with tests to.

Hi Princess Purr,

Thanks for the quick response. I hope that Dr. is right. It's hard to keep calm and not overanalyze these stupid tests after trying to conceive for 2 years and 1 previous m/s.

Hi Hun, the control line still looks faint in all those tests and they look great!!! I doubt your hormones would have dropped that quickly even if there was something sinister going on...with my mc I still had dark positives so tests are a rubbish indication of how well a preg is doing. Yours look great. It s'more likely to be slightly more diluted urine, or more dye in those particular tests IMO. All good :)

On a side note, my control lines have always almost vanished on Frer towards the 16dpo mark so I don't think what that doc said is entirely accurate. There will always be a control to show test is working, but if you have high hcg the dye from the control may be taken to make the test line appear. That definitely happens. :)

Thanks for your input mamaofthree. I think Drs don't know that much most of the time. With the internet you realize there are as many different opinions as Drs. At least that's been my experience with infertility. I found an interesting post (I can't post the link to it cause I'm not allowed since I'm new). I'm going to copy paste it just in case someone is going through this as well. This is what she says:

Ok, so I have been testing every couple of days with my Wondfos just because I love seeing that super dark test line appear before the control line. It gives me such comfort and slaps me into the reality that I am indeed pregnant! Well, a couple of days ago (around 6w1d) I tested with FMU and the line was lighter than it had been!
I had a brief moment of panic, but then I remembered reading that once HCG gets high enough, the tests will get lighter or even show negative!
Makes sense, as they are not quantitative tests but instead qualitative tests.
I added water to the cup so that it was 70% water and 30% urine.
Dipped another test, and it was nice and dark! Phew!

So I decided to try the experiment one more time this morning.

FMU: Line was barely even there!
80% water mixture: Super dark line shows instantly!

Ahhhhhhh of course, hook effect ?!

Honestly don't take anymore Hun, you'll go crazy, and if it is hook effect, and you get a barely there or neg you'll worry needlessly. You are definitely pregnant :) I'm a poas addict too though, took my last at 16dpo then stopped ( uhhh hrmmmm ran out of money ahaha)
