Ok I just wanted to ask you all how many of you who has suffered MCs, particularly RMCs, have taken illicit substances in the past? I wondered if there had ever been any studies done on this? I smoked and drunk heavily in my late teens & 20s, and also took all sorts of recreational drugs. Not for years, but wonder if I've messed up most of my eggs??? What about the rest of you?

I don't think drinking and v bad lifestyles in your past can affect the quality of your eggs in the future - the reason they say to stop in advance is as eggs start to develop 4 months before they get to the point of ovulation so you could affect there quality during this time but don't reckon stuff you did years ago would have such an impact.

I drank and used to smoke cigarettes at uni and beyond - not rediculously heavily but was a typical student and don't think this contributed to my mc. Personally can't be bothered drinking anymore and haven't for ages - just the occasional glass of champagne at christmas or birthdays - having spent years living way out of town spent a lot of time being the designated driver ( far too cheap for taxis!! ) and seeing people completely out of it really put me off it.

If this was the case then the junkies and alcohlics wouldn't have kids and far too many of them do.

I think it's natural to look for reasons or things to blame but I don't think you should blame you 20 year old self - and looking at the RMC section on the miscarriage association this isn't one of the things they look for when trying to establish a reason for RMC - obviously if you were still living that lifestyle it could be a factor but you're not and it most likely isn't.

Hope you get some answers for your RMCs :hugs:

I don't think what we have done in the past (I am talking many years previous) could have that much of an effect on our miscarriages (please do not quote me).

I have been soul searching and even questioned whether my pets or my electric blanket could have anything to do my miscarriages. Sorry if this sounds daft.

I guess because I have not had one for 7 months, I am trying not to think too much into why it has happened but I guess if I were unlucky to have another one, then I would begin to start questioning why this keeps happening x

I agree with the other posters.. I dot think what you did in the past is affecting the now or the future of your eggs. I like you had a little wild spell in my youth, for years now i dont drink, i dont drink caffeine, i dont smoke and i dont do drugs not even paracetamol.

I think we just try to find some sort of reason to make sense of why this is happening to us. I have had 2 mc now and i know where you are coming from. Try not to punish yourself for your past.. that is behind you.

Thanks for your responses. I don't think I'm really trying to find a cause - at least not like I was at the beginning - more like I just wondered if perhaps it was a possible factor and wondered if perhaps it's something that has been overlooked???

I work with heavy class A drug users and they seem to be popping sprogs out all over the place - these are users who have abused drugs over many years and who still are when knocked up! I think its highly unlikely that anything you did years ago will be affecting your MC's now. x

I smoked and drank pretty heavily in my teens till later 20's and I had two perfectly healthy children at the ages of 26 and 30 without a single complication. I only gave it up the year before I conceived the first.
