I really wanted to start using cloth nappies this month. I've had it in my head for ages, but now I don't think I can afford it :growlmad:

How much would it roughly cost to get us set up? My maternity ends next month and I need to get a rough guide before I can go to OH and justify spending so much money in one go :/

I know that disposables probably work out more expensive in the long run, but I suppose to OH, £18 once or twice a month isn't as bad as forking out £100+ now... :dohh:

If you have a look online you can get pretty good starter packs, i know tots bots do them and theyre on fillyourpants.com and babykind.com, and i think cheeksandcherries.co.uk, You'd probably be better doing that now.. getting started, seeing how you go, then you can occasionaly buy pretties here and there,

My friend got a birth to potty pack of tots bots bamboozles and has used the same plain white ones all the time, night and day, never bought more, (unlike the addicts in here!) but now shes got some pretty wraps and stuff, so just ease into it. :)

LOL - reading about the addicts on here scares me :D

I'll check out those sites now, thank you!!

I've manage to get a brillliant stash for £45. Its not a pretty stash like everyone here but it will start me off and I can build up the pretty ones over time. I got 4 coolababy AIO for £20 fro a girl here, a bumgenius for a fiver from here, and a few earthwise (now motherease I believe) with a few wraps for £20 from someone here. then put an add on free cycle and got given a full birth to potty kit of terry prefolds and wraps. So I've plenty to go full time cloth - they just arent very pretty yet.
I've made a few myself too for pretty ones just now.

You can do cloth cheap under £100 if you go for normal white nappies like a little lamb starter pack, it gets expensive when you get into the world of pretty nappies! x

I started out cheaply-

Can get these https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12x-Naughty-..._Baby_Changing_Nappies_LE&hash=item23056d5bd1 will do enough for 2 days and if you wash everyday at the start will work out well untill you buy more

or even these? https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/24x-NaughtyB..._Baby_Changing_Nappies_LE&hash=item23056d560a would be enough for full time in cloth and at a reasonable price. They arent the best nappies but they work well :D

I won a nappy on ebay last night for 6p! And thats including postage! It can be done cheap as thats how i started but now im addicted to pretties and have far too many nappies and spent far too much!

I'm using terry squares with nature babies wraps. Very cheap nappies, but spent slightly more on the wraps, which are lovely and pretty and reliable.

Yup, i agree with Erin! Ebay cheapies are good for stash building, they aren't as good apparently, but i cant vouch for that yet :)

Also preloved ones on here & cloth nappy tree are good for testing diff brands to see if you like them or not... i've leapt in without a baby to try them on but you could always buy 1 cloth nappy a week until you know what ones are best for you, then build up from there. They sell for quite a bit too, so if you dont like one you can get most of your money back for them :flower:

Its fun :D xx

The inserts arent meant to be as good with the ebay cheapies but you get 2 with 1 nappy and ive never had a prob with them even if i use 1 insert i dont have leaks but every baby is different!

Does your council give you anything towards them? Lots do. Have a look here https://www.goreal.org.uk/finder Tick the council scheme box, and it should come up with anything in your area

How d'ya manage that?

It doesn't have to be expensive if you don't get addicted to pretties xx
