i dont have a bumper on my LO cot but he is rolling about like crazy in his sleep and all we hear all night long is him banging his head off the side. And i dont mean a little tap, i mean a huge bang! Im afraid of him knocking himself unconscious!
I know that bumpers arent recommended due to restricting air circulation but im so worried about the bangs to his head. Can anyone recommend a good bumper? Can i get one that goes around the whole cot?

I dont know who said they are not recommended as they sell them in all baby shops. Yes they are to protect LO from banging their head, arms etc on bars. I also think it prevents draughts from getting in, air can still circulate around teh rest of the cot. Mothercare has a wide range of all colours and patterns. Cheapest being about £30. Havent yet seen one that goes around the whole cot though  I thought that would be more likely to NOT be recommended.

I believe the safety issue with cot bumpers is the danger of suffocation or strangulation from a loosely tied bumper and the restriction of the flow of air which might lead to overheating.

LO has been sleeping with a bumper on her cot for about 3 weeks now as she was woken up rolling around banging her head and getting her legs stuck between the bars which left nasty bruises. Luckily she only rolls one way so I have only part of the cot covered in a bumper so the air flow isn't fully restrictive and I have made sure it is securely tied (double knotted in fact!) One other thing to point out is that they shouldn't be used if baby is sitting up, or can pull themselves up to sitting position, because there is the risk that baby could use the bumper as a lever to pull themselves up and out of the cot. I have a cot with a base that lowers so this shouldn't happen but I am hoping that by the time she can pull herself up to standing position we wouldn't have the problem of bumped heads and bruised legs and so bumpers would no longer be necessary.

We've got a bumper on the crib as Abi kept banging her head on the bars, and I would say she doesn't do it anymore but I'm probably just not noticing as I can't hear the bang.
I've never understood though why bumpers are not recommended as they restrict airflow in cribs and cots but It's fine to put your baby in a basket that has a fabric lining and is a lot smaller...

Maya was doing the same thing, always banging her head against the sides and getting her legs stuck between the bars, it was a nightmare and like you I was terrified of her hurting herself! But then someone on here recommended the Safe T Sleep wrap so we got it and it's awesome. Stops the baby from rolling around which at least for us has meant better sleep as Maya doesn't constantly wake herself up and also we don't have to worry about her safety! I'd definitely recommend that, we got ours from safetots.co.uk.

I have some sort of air venting bumper that attaches, with velcro, to the sides of the bars to stop arms and legs getting through the bars. Its an airwrap bumper.

But I also had the prob that Isaac would move up the cot in a temper and bash his head on the bars, so I have just bought this...

It goes below the mattress so no way of babys head getting under and also, velcros at the top.

It was £40.00 - you may be able to get them cheaper but it's doing the job which makes Mummy happy!

i havent read the replys so i might be copying someone but ikea do a great all round the cot bumper for £9 and its not too tall either so it doesnt restrict air flow.

it really helped zane as he was a head banger too, well he still is lol

if you didnt want a traditional bumper, you could try something like this?

Yep they are not recommended because of air circulation and the risk of suffocation.

You could try a cot wrap, they are made of mesh which is still a bit padded and go all the way around the cot. There are a couple on the market, here is one of them https://safedreams.co.uk/.

try the airwrap we have one and they are fab. my little boy is all over the place they are slightly padded but breathable best thing we have bought so far!!

we got ours from jojo maman bebe

I think the breathable all-round cot bumpers are called the "airwrap" or something like that. I really want one, but only found out about them after we bought our LO's bedding set, incl bumper. Annoying really, because we have a half bumper, and she turns herself around during the night, so her head ends up on the non-padded end. Ironically, if we put her in the wrong end of the cot, she won't bother to turn around. I think she must like it down that end... :dohh:
