Hi all,

Im just wondering if anyone has experienced the same and everything has turned out ok?

On my 20 week scan everything was normal except for the kidneys measured 8.5mm and 10.5mm. Was told that I would have to come back for a 30 week scan to check them again which was today.

Except they have grown larger, the 8.5mm one is now 18.5mm and the 10.5mm one is now 13.5mm. I have been referred to the fetal medicine unit which will be a hour journey there this monday coming. Im scared they are going to say its untreatable and my baby wont make it

Has anyone had this and the outcome has been ok? Im so worried.
Thankyou x

Josh had this and he was totally fine (can't remember what his measurements were). He had go be on anti-bs as soon as he was born and then various scans and tests from when he was a week old - he had an ultrasound.

Try not to worry, it's good they're referring you, means you will get all the care you and bubba need xxxx

Thankyou, its just such a worry, i have a healthy DD and this one will be my DS and im so scared of losing him x

I was going to ask if you found out what the gender is. I was told kidney/plumbing problems are more associated with boys. X

Yeah, I had read it somewhere....(google)!!

I just got so scared when he put next to one of the measurements, grossly enlarged and with them being bigger again this time, got so scared x

my son has this also, although not as bad as your child. but my dr has made me feel good about everything. the big thing I figuring out what is going on. the reason the pelvic floor is enlarged is bc there is extra urine in there. and that could be bc of a obstruction in the tubing or there is a valve that is located in the tube that might not be working properly....and total fixable. I have had several extensive scans done that show my baby does not have any of that my specialist said his is due to he is a large baby and I have extra amniotic fluid so he pees more than the average baby. also he told me he does not really go by the size of the pelvic floor but rather what it looks like and what the capillaries with in look like. the big problem is when the capillaries with in the pelvic floor start to dilate and become mishappen. so be sure to ask about that....

I hope everything turns out well for you and you get some good answers on Monday!

Thankyou, ive just been so worried, i will be asking all questions possible.
Im hoping its something small that can be fixed. Thanks for your reply x

no a problem! when I found out my boys kidneys were dilated my ob was worthless and did even give me time to ask questions. it was not until I saw my specialist last week I got those answers and finally feel better.

on the up side out of birth defects this is the most common and what I call the lesser evil, happening more in boys than girls and 90% of the time resolves it self. believe me I know the waiting game sucks!

My DD's kidneys were dilated but thankfully they did go down at the 32 week ultrasound. My dr told me that if they would've gotten bigger than she would have to be on antibiotics for the first year and there could be a blockage. :hugs: I know it's so scary to hear there could be something wrong with your baby. :hugs:

my dd had this now. They just checked her again I am 28 1/2 weeks. One was 8 and the other 9. I have to go back in 3 weeks because they said it might resolve after 30 weeks. They say its a marker for down syndrome. They called hers ureter dialation. Same thing though as what you are talking about. My screening test back at 12 weeks came back negative. I am so worried right now. Can you please tell me how it turned out for your baby. The tech did tell me he saw this almost every day.
