So i have been given about 20 avent bottles from my mums friend, ive washed and sterilised them (and will sterilise them all again nearer his arrival) and i bought new teets for ALL of them... is this going to be ok? Ive bought some small bottles too, the little ones (got 5 of them)

also ive taken a random guess with formula and got cow and gate infant milk, hoping little man will be ok with that... anyone else using it?

this is going to sound really stupid (never done this before, 1st time mummy!) but is it ok to make up bottles and then warm them up again when he wants one? i read on the formula tub that your meant to make them to feed straight away... but in that case, he's going to have to wait like 30/40 minutes every time for me to make a bottle.... wouldn't it be better to have some ready made and just heat them up in a jug of boiling water when he is hungry?

thanks, sorry i know i sound so stupid... nearly all info is on breastfeeding, so really clueless about all this!!

Firstly you are not stupid!!
The bottles are fine that you have!!

I switched to cow and gate as my daughter got constipated on SMA so she's been on cow and gate since a few weeks old and had no problems.

On the warming up subject - all the tubs say wat the cow and gate one says as I think they all have to say that by law. With warming the bottles I have done exactly what you say (made up put in fridge then warmed up in a jug of boiling water) and I've done this since birth and I know some people think that this can cause a baby to be ill etc but my LO is perfectly healthy and has always had her bottles like this (my mum and nan both did bottles this way too!) So yes it is absolutley fine to do it this way it's your choice hun!

Oh bit of advice - having some cartons of milk is very handy for those late night/early morning feeds as you can just pour them straight into bottle and give at room temp!!

We make bottles in advance & store them in the fridge then heat up when needed. That's ok by who guidelines as well. We use aptamil but only because that's what we were given when we went back to hospital when bella wouldn't bf.
With the bottles, check the teats you have. Avent have newborn ones which generally need replacing with their size 2 tears by a month old.
I also echo what Mandy says about having some ready-made cartons in, you'll need them for in hospital at least.

What I did the first few weeks when I was sleeping on the couch becasue I had a c-section and wasnt able to get off the bed. Anyway. I would make up 4-5 bottles and warmed them as she woke up. and once I got the hang of times she woke up I would set my phone to vibrate before so I could have the bottle ready

i sterilize my bottles and put boiling hot water in them, wait for them to cool and pop them on top shelf in fridge, when lacey needs a feed i add the powder and heat. Ive used cow and gate since day 2 as i tried to breast feed. I had avent bottles and found they gave lacey alot of wind as she gulps, so i bought the dr brown bottles and there fantatsic but id see how it goes and then you can see what your baby likes ect x

Agreed! Xxx

i make bottles as we need them, unless we are going out, i just make it up and pop it in a plastic jug with the lid of the bottle and it cools down pretty quickly, it was even easier once i kinda new her routine, i kinda know now when to expect her to want one, but making them in advance is ok also, just make them up pop them in the fridge and heat up when needed in a jusg of boiling water or in a bottle warmer.

weve have ended up using cow and gate milk with both our kids once moved on from bf and never had any problems with it, though my son did end up on the comfort version due to really bad wind.
we started him on aptamil at first but that didnt agree with him at all!
all babies take to differents milks though so its hard to say it will work for you, but i think most people find cow and gate fine.

oh and your bottles will be fine, im using my sons old ones for my daughter i just soaked them in warm soapy water , rinsed and sterilised, boughts new teats and we were good to go!

xx
