I dont know how to decipher the result of oh semen analysis, I think ive got it all apart from the actual count, everything ive googled all seem to say 10*6ml but I dont know what this is

Hi torilou,
Where are your numbers? There should be a count, motility, morphology? What have you got?

xx

what are your numbers hun they should have said how much mobile sperm there is per ml roughly which can tell you if its good or not, or else your doctor should say its great, good, okay or bad etc.... my partner has Super sperm according to our RE lol

It just says abnormal sperm count high 87% shouldnt be more than 87% (<85)
Normal sperm 13%, (15-100)
Total sperm count 151 10*6ml (>20) What the heck is this??
Sperm motility 65% (50-100)
ph 7.8 (7.2-8.1)

Looking at this the abnormal sperm is slightly below what it should be but what is his count with that result?? whats the 151 all about?

Hi torilou,

Your motility and morphology look good.
87% is fine, not that much over the 85% normal threshold. It's only when you start getting into the 95% range that you need to start getting worried.
Likewise your motility is fine - you've got 65% and 50% is the minimum standard you're looking for here.
I think your count number is 151 million - which if that's correct, is really, really good. The >20 is just saying that you're over 20 million, which is the lowest threshold of normal. I'm not sure what the 10*6ml means, I think it's just another way of measuring volume.
All in all, I'd say you guys are in great shape. The slightly higher abnormal forms you've got should be more than offset with your great count.
Good luck honey.

Thanks for that, I was looking at it thinking he cant have 151million surely! I have heard that to many can also be a bad thing for some reason.

Mrs J

Does the arrow mean he has less than 20 million as the arrow is going the other way on the 85% means more than or am I being thick here....

Ive just put all the info into a online calculator and its come up with calculated motile function sperm count of 26.79 million so the initial count may be high but taking all other factors into consideration this is the amount that are any good im summising, is this a good amount? Ive read a lot about 20 million being the norm but I dont know if thats the amount after all other factors ie morphology and motility are taken into consideration or the starting number itself

Hi torilou,

It's possible he could have 151, and there is definitely no down side to that. Normal counts range between 20 and 300 million.

As far as how all the counts interrelate.. put it this way.. if you had poor morphology like us (98% abnormal) and low count too (say 14 million) your chances would be much worse. Because you've got less swimmers to begin with, and then on top of that, the ones you've got are almost all bad.

You guys have heaps of swimmers, and your other counts are OK. So I think you should be fine. xx

Torilou,
Which sperm analysis calculator did you use? Would be interested in the link.
I can only find the babymed one and even if you put in the WHO values of 2ml volume, 20mil per ml, 15% normal and50% motility you get "sperm count too low" with total of 1.35 million!!
Love fluffy xx

Fluffystar

I think thats actually the same one I used hun xx

fluffy

Typing in those amounts its coming up with 0.03 million, not sure if were using the same one, not sure how to put a link up for the one im using.

From what ive read 20 million is too low (apparantly but dont quote me on that) so in theory the total motile functional count of 0.03 is going to be classed as too low as well isnt it? Is that your oh's amounts?

OoopS I stand corrected, 20 mill is considered normal

mmm, did the same and indeed, what is considered normal comes up as two low. I am wondering if it something to do with the conversion of the volume in ml. It say the range is 0.1 to 30... 30!!!! Surely that would be a very big volume when the average seems to be 2..... OH volume was 3 and the consultant said that was above average. So confused!!!

ooh so confusing!!
this is the link I was using.
I put our numbers in and got 5.5 million which said too low. I started playing around with the numbers and it was only when you get 10million total that it says it is 'adequate'.
Ahhhhhhh
xx
