Hiya

Okay so hubby is stressing a little now. Company he works for have places here and in approx 4 other countries (head office being in europe). The one here is small and has a gm. Now hubby had supervisor for years who finally left. He was useless, never did anything and wouldnt take responsibilty etc etc. Stocks were always wrong even after stock takes as the guy would just adjist what made his life easy. Hubby had told the office manager many times that the guy never did anything etc etc but nothing was done.

So tye guy finally left a couple of mnths ago. Hubby got a telling off (no official warnong) by gm for not keeping eye on what the supervisor had been doing etc evwn though hubby was jist a warehouse assistant! So they did a stock take whoch was screwed, the management decided not to adjist yet etc. New manager was brought in (hubby applied as he was told to but was told not yet ready which was fine) new stock take done they were down on items but also up on items due to sales rep.and gm having demo stock etc.

When new manager started hubby had to train him! A mistake was made by another warehouse worker and some stock booked in that hadnt been received as they were down that amount yesterday (600). Hubby tried to sort the issue even though he didnt make the mostake. Now the manager said the gm has said of anymore stock has to be adjusted its a straight sacking! Hubby is worried he is gonna get fired because of it but I cant see how they could straight sack him for a) a mistake, mistakes do happen at work and no warnings have been given b) something that happened when hubby was training the new manager and all hubby has tried to do is sort it out c) they have said about people getting fired in the past but seems they use as a scare monger thing?

The gm may have a word with hubby next week and I said to not worry as he has had words with him in the past which turned out to be finding out what happened or jist a telling off (previously for things that happened when hubby hasnt been there lol).

Can they fire him straight up for something like this? The other guy hubby works with is constantly makong mistakes and not owning up.and hubby has to take the blame! The new manager said he wants to train hubby as he os close to retirement and he said the impression he gets is that the gm etc want hubby to eventually run the warehouse but he needs more training and experience!

Sorry for the massive rant. Hubby never stresses so I have been trying to put his mind at ease.

Basically.....if he has been there for a while they cant straight sack them.....there are diciplinary procedures that HAVE to be followed. If they did, given what you have just described he would have a strong case for unfair dismissal!!

I agree with abz there are procedures that lead to dismissal, such as verbal, first written, second written then getting fired.

I definitely agree a straight sacking could be unfair dismissal xx

Thanks ladies. I have checked hos contract and one of the dismissal reasons isnt getting stock wrong or making mostakes for that matter. Lol.

Tbh they seem to have a bully boy nature when things dont go their way. Lol.

Why does your OH have to take the blame for the other guy getting things wrong? I understand the need to fix mistakes but shouldn't he tell management about the problem THEN tell them he can fix it and how? That would be good for two reasons - firstly, he won't be blamed unfairly for the first mistake and secondly, he's showing he knows his stuff and is able to manage stock/people etc.

Well in the past he has said about the old supervisor making mostakes that he had to take the blame for and they basically say they are a team and that he should of known what was going on! He has told his manager that it was the other guy who made the mistake, its the gm who wouldnt care! tue new manager wants hubby to be team leader as he is great at his job. hes putting him thru 2 nvqs which he is happy about. its higher management that dont like to manage people. such a shame for hubby as he is great at what he does!

xx

He cant actually fix the issue as yet as he knows it was booked on system when it wasnt received in the delivery but whwn he contacted their office in germany thy realised they hadnt invoiced it so have sent an invoice even though hubby told them it wasnt received. Tbf I think his managet shoukd step in and help sort the issue.
