I recently suffered a miscarriage at 6 weeks but may have also suffered a chemical pregnancy before that and would like other people's opinions

The month before I suffered my miscarriage we were actively trying and my AF was over a week. I did lots of tests and they all came back BFN and one morning I woke up to what I was convinced was implantation bleeding then had nothing. My period turned up that weekend or what I thought was my period so didn't think anything of it I was neatly 99% sure the spotting I had earlier that week was implantion bleeding as I am never normally late for my AF. The following month I got a BFP and then unfortunately that week started to miscarry which was confirmed by a scan and blood tests.

I am waiting for an appointment with my doctor to ask the question but how likely is it that I did suffer a chemical pregnancy first and not just a late AF ? Can you suffer a chemical pregnancy and get BFN's ? Am I likely to be able to get pregnant again

It really could go either way. You never said when you took your first hpt, what dpo or cd I mean. If you would have taken one very early, like 8-10 dpo, you may have been able to catch a hint of a line. However, with a chemical the line should get lighter, not darker, until eventually it turns negative so yes, you could have been pregnant and still have gotten negative tests. Once the hcg reached zero, that told your body you weren't pregnant anymore so you bled. I wouldn't go too far into thinking it was for sure a chemical if you're not 100% sure, it may have been simply a late period. When I have a late period even by a couple days, they are often worse for some reason. As to your final question, I would suggest maybe going to your doctor if it happens again and asking them to refer you to a fetal medicine doctor. If you're prone to recurrent losses, they help you to keep your bean sticky. It may be simply that you're lacking a certain vitamin, like folic acid, or maybe your hormones aren't high enough in which they will give you hormones to take once you start ttc. Whatever happens, I wish you luck in the future and hope that I helped in some way. :)

Thank you Hun I have an appointment next week with my doctor so I can ask her these questions I just feel a little confused at the minute. My AF was due today and up to now no signs but I've decided I'm not going to test for a few weeks that way if I miscarry again I can hopefully shield myself from the heartbreak again and just put it down to a late AF again .... Or atleast that's the plan
