We have just had a phone call from housing asking if they can come for a home visit tomorrow.

Our notice ends on the 5th October, but we still have no where to go yet.

Has anyone had experienced this? What should I expect? :flower:

Had this a few years ago when I moved into a council property. It's basically a check to see that you look after your property so they know you won't trash a council place. A tidy round in most houses would usually be more than enough.

Writing on the walls, overgrown gardens or general areas of disrepair may make them think again, but I imagine they're fairly reasonable and don't expect you to live in a show home :)

Hope this helps and good luck :flower:

Ok thank you. Bit nervous but I'm sure we will be ok x

they check to see what work they need to do, if any, ie plastering or pulling wallpaper down or pulling flooring up.

we had a lady come round last week and she just checked to see all our doors opened and closed and that we had all the original light fittings (the black and white ones)

hope you find somewhere xx

We don't currently live in a council house, we are been evicted because I have a disability and our private landlord refuses to do adaptations.

Our notice ends on the 5th October, so I wondered if the council woman is coming to maybe give us good news that there is a house for us

I don't know anything about it but good luck hun I hope you get a suitable place soon x

Good luck hun, hope its something positive for you.

Keep us posted :hugs:

Oh I see! She will write down your requirements and find you somewhere. You're a priority if u have children or a disability. Hope she brings you good news! Xx

We are high priority, thats why I thought maybe she has us somewhere  don't understand why she needs a home visit when we haven't got long here anyway.

Hmm that is strange. I haven't a clue then? Let us know how it goes xx

Maybe its a simple case of she has paper work to complete and is saving you a trip to the office. Also if you are being assessed cos of a disability it will probably help to see you at home to see what kind of adaptation you need.

I think it is standard procedure when you are being evicted, we have been evicted twice - not anything we did - and had home visits both times, still privately renting though!

Well it went well, she said it was just basically to check we lived there, then she had a look round the house. That was it.

Update............

The day after our home visit, we got offered a house around the corner!!! Can't actually believe it, it hasn't quite sunk in yet!

Thank you! I know still hasn't sunk in!

In this area the home visit is to check you actually live there and also that the number of people who live there really do, because you get a lot of people registering from places they don't actually live in or they exaggerate how many people live there to get more priority. Good luck with your new place! Xx
