So, my husband went out of town for a business trip last Sunday night. We were pretty sure that the baby wouldn't come, but he was supposed to be only about an hour and a half away, plus we had a doula and figured I'd be in labor for 12 hours or so.

Not the case...

I had contractions Sunday night, but I was pretty sure I had just overdone it during the day. They were intense, but irregular. I took a two hour bath and relaxed, then went to bed. I kept waking up and having contractions, but I could go back to sleep. I *thought* that I was getting hours of sleep between contractions. So I thought that I couldn't be in real labor. Turns out I am an idiot...I went to bed at 2 and between 2 and 5:30 I woke up 5 or 6 times. I woke up and was still having contractions. I decided to call the doula and see what she thought and if she would come over to keep me company while we figured out if I was in labor it not.

She timed my contractions and they were about 30 seconds long and about 90 seconds apart! She told me to go on to the hospital. I called my husband and he got on the road. I called my grandmother to take me to the hospital.

I got to the hospital at 7am. I just closed my eyes and breathed through contractions and ignored the staff who tried to talk to me during them. They checked me and I was 5cm and 100% effaced.

I planned for a natural childbirth, but my contractions were overlapping and I was not able to rest or breathe between. I opted for stadol just to get a break. I thought I would be in labor for many more hours and I really needed to rest. The stadol did nothing to ease the pain, but it helped me settle and focus. It kind of reminded me of this one time I did psychedelic mushrooms in college :haha: I couldn't do anything but close my eyes and focus on breathing.

My husband got there just before nine, and I whispered to him about an epidural and said that I just needed to rest and that I wouldn't be able to make it many more hours without it. Then I realized I had been pushing for the last couple of contractions without realizing it. I asked if I should stop (I really thought it was way too soon!) pushing and then everyone got really surprised, checked me (10cm) and then ran around frantically getting the midwife from my OBs office to catch! I pushed for about an hour and Crasher was born!
