I recently started the transition from cosleeping to the crib. My baby is 8 months and she is moving everywhere and I'm worried that she could hurt herself in the crib. Is it safe to put her a crib bumper?or do I have another alternative?

They suggest not using traditional bumpers anymore. I opted for a mesh bumper that provides some cushion but they can also breathe through it if their face gets smashed against it while sleeping.

It isn't too thin? How it works with you baby?

It's about the same thickness as traditional bumpers. It works well for him. He did go through a phase where he would stick his feet under it through the bars. But he leaves it alone now.

I also have an air-mesh bumper on our cot and I used the same for my son - stops them getting limbs stuff between the bars and throwing things out of the cot but still circulates the air

Thanks you so much for your answers ladies. I'm going to buy the mesh bumper.

I need one of these as well.

DS moves at an exactly 90' angle about 10 times a night, meaning he's sleeping on the narrow side of the bed (which he fits, but only just, with his legs tucked by his belly). I have the traditional bumper and that's not an issue since he never goes face first into it, but he does stick his legs out through the bars and then wakes and screams bloody murder until someone comes and saves him. I have temporarily solved this by stuffing a ton of small stuffed animals through the bars, but it looks horrible and I hate to think that one day he will kick one out and then break his little leg.

So thanks for the advice!

A sleeping bag or sleep sack can help with stopping legs sticking out through the bars. Doesn't do much to stop the arms, though!

Raquel thank you. We actually tried it, and swaddling, but he hates it so much because he can't move the way he'd like to and gets incredibly frustrated. :)

I wouldn't swaddle an 8 month old baby. He's way too old for that and needs to have free mobility of arms and feet.

I always used the traditional bumpers as I found they worked best. The mesh ones were pointless for me bc baby would still bang her head when moving. As long as baby is able to roll from side to side easily and can sit up bumpers are safe

Ours is only 3 months so he doesn't do any of those yet :) The OP has an 8 months old. I was just trying to say that he hated swaddling since day 1 - he's a kicker and doesn't even tolerate a blanket over his feet. I am less worried about the breathing as he doesn't go into the sides rolling over (yet), more about him actually breaking something sticking his limbs through the bars.

My mesh should be coming this week so I'll report back on my experience.

We put regular crib bumpers on Isla's crib when she was 6 months old. She could roll both directions, sit up, crawl, and pull herself into standing so not only was she banging her little body all over her crib, but she was/is more than capable of moving herself away from the bumper if her face was pressed into it.

we used/use one. covers the top of rails and the lower section of the rails with padding.
