I know there's a natural parenting section but it doesn't get much traffic.

Any moms going I be natural more natural parenting ?

We will be having a natural birth with a midwife , minimal ultrasounds and Doppler use during pregnancy, no eye antibiotics or vit k shots , breastfeeding , anti circ, cloth diapering , baby wearing attatchment parenting , family

Any one else leaning more towards natural parenting?

Us! we have to do all the normal ultrasounds and such plus extra after my high risk pregnancy with my daughter, but we do delayed vaccines, no circ, breastfeeding (hoping it works out better this time), cloth diapering, baby wearing, cosleeping, baby led weaning. all the good stuff :)

Love it . We won't be co sleeping as our bed way to small :( and oh doesn't want to be any more crowded . But baby will be on bassinet right beside the bed.

Me. No cosleeping since we have cats and dogs sleeping in our bed. But we are having a bassinet right next to the bed.

I would say I am half and half. I really want a hwb, but because of a clotting issue I have I think I will feel more comfortable in the hospital (at least with my first hopeful vbac). There aren't any midwives in my area that work in the hospitals, otherwise I would have one. I will have a doula and plan to bf and baby wear. I was wondering, do you have any links to evidence based care for declining the vit k and eye antibiotics, because I would like to forgo those as well?

Breast feeding ,co sleeping ,baby led weaning ,baby wearing ,homeschooling mummy here :) I'd also love to home birth but sadly can't due to needing c sections . Great topic

I'll be having a pain relief free home birth the same as my sons :) one of the best experiences I ever had. I still bf and bedshare with my little boy so will do so witj the new baby.

The uk doesn't do eye anti biotics at all I def think its unnessecary.

Forgot to say I use cloth and will continue and will have a physiological third stage.

I'm going as natural as possible; will probably have home birth, definitely natural birth even if I do go to the hospital. It's my first, so I think I might feel safer in the hospital, but I haven't quite decided yet. I don't know how I'm going to handle the pain, but from what I've read about epidurals, that is not a road I want to go down.

I'm trying cloth diapering because I like the idea of natural fabric on the baby's skin, also the cost and environmental issues of course. I'll have a cosleeper thing attached to my bed so baby has its own safe place but is still right next to me. I'm terrified of rolling over in my sleep onto a newborn. I know I probably wouldn't, but I also know I'd never get a good night's sleep from worrying about it.

Me. Moving to the UK 10+ years ago really opened my eyes to how pregnancy and birth are so over medicalised than North America. Routine infant circumcision and eye goop just don't happen here. The eye ointment is an antibiotic in case your an STD than baby can catch when born vaginally. So, even after testing you in pregnancy and you knowing your sexual history, they still think you may have something (gonorrhoea, IIRC) so do the eye junk. Nice.

Another natural one here...
Planning a home water birth and natural 3rd stage.
Will be trying my hardest at breastfeeding with lots more knowledge and support than last time. Co sleeping but with a sidecar arrangement. Cloth bumming and exclusively baby wearing also :)

I would love to have a home birth, but my partner wouldn't be willing to agree.

I want to try this time to have no pain relief. Minimal checks and be active during the birth.

I won't be declining any vaccinations, and I won't be home schooling.

But I would love to baby wear and will definitely be breast feeding. :)

We were pretty AP/crunchy with our first and will likely continue. Honestly, I'm not too sure if we will do co-sleeping again, but I do plan to bf, cloth diaper, blw, and bw again. Birth-wise, I'm just going with the flow- I'd like to go as natural as possible but after being high-risk last time around and having 2obs, 4 nurses and 3 neonatologists present for dd's arrival, I've realized that a birthing experience can still be great even with a party of doctors in the room :)

Glitter, when I told my hubby first time around that I wanted a home birth, he freaked out. I kept reading and researching though, and come 33 weeks I brought it up again. He really respected what I'd read, knows that I learn my stuff and said he was happy for me to ask the midwife. I ended up transferring to hospital in early labour due to heavy meconium being present, but he knows home birth is definitely the plan this time and hasn't resisted at all.

Kaites, home birthing is totally a state of mind, I think. It didn't happen for me the first time around even though I'd planned it, but the research I'd done for it put me in good stead for a birth in any location. I used to work in the NICU, and there's definitely a place for it all when needed and so reassuring to know it's there. We're definitely best birthing where we're most comfy, and that's where we feel most confident and can relax. (For me, providing all is "normal", that's at home.) xx

Ill see I actually just discussed it with my midwife ill see if I can get her to give me links .

For the eye anti biopics the only reason they give them is because if mom has chlamydia or gohnorrea during a vaginal birth it can cause eye infections and blindness however if you get the urine test for it before hand then they arnt nessisary .

Vitamin k shot the reason I'm rejecting it is that the vitamin k shot given is about 1000 times the rda for an infant which is iffy to me to begin with . Also it's synthetic vitamin k has been linked to leukemia and childhood cancers and since baby's dad had a form of leukemia we don't want to risk it. Just the number of synthetic things in it and there isn't a really strong reason /research to get it.

We will w doing oral vitamin k which Is much safer and lower dose

Yes! Did it this way last time and plan to do it again. Natural birth in a hospital w/ midwife no pain meds, exclusively breastfeed, delayed vacs, wanted delayed cord cutting but it didn't happen, baby wearing (but DD didn't like it much - too hot and too confining?), not co-sleeping but she was in a "cosleeper" at the side of our bed.

Oh, and cloth diapers but probably won't this time bc we share a washer/dryer.

I intend to continue our gentle parenting style with the new baby. We're buying a larger bed to make room for the new addition. Breastfeeding was a wonderful experience with my daughter and we succeeded despite a few obstacles, so I am no doubt it will work this time round also. I'm not even bothering to buy a pushchair - it's amazing how much money was wasted on unnecessary purchases first time round! To be baby-led and gentle is definitely our priority :)

I'm going to be as natural as possible.

This is baby #5 for me so same as the others, will be breastfeeding to self weaning whenever that is, baby will be next to us in a co sleeper, cloth diapers, no CIO etc. Cant have a home birth, have had 4 preemies and looking at a very early delivery this time and already had upwards of 25 scans:wacko: Will be baby wearing and BLW if we can:flower:

Re: vitamin K... I am declining it altogether this time unless there are indications, such as a premature baby or traumatic delivery, which I hope there won't be.
