Crunchy moms/ natural parenting

It can stain and be difficult to wash out and sun out, being dark, tarry and dries like cement. But you could always use liners. Or use an insert for something like a Pop In that you don't mind replacing.

I have a few questions as I have never cloth nappied before and no one I know has either... Sorry if they seem dumb questions!
Do you guys use a laundry service? If not do you do a wash of nappies each day?
How many nappies would you need? What do you do with the liners, put them in the household waste? Do you honestly find them as easy as disposables or is it more for environmental reasons? The reason I ask is that I've done a bit of (v rough!) maths and I figured a baby using on average 9 nappies a day for a year is just over 3200 nappies a year. I can get jumbo boxes of disposables for about £9 for 100. Therefore a year would cost me best part of £300. Cloth nappies seem to be around £7-9 each, and I would need how many, 30? I don't have a tumble drier so I would be washing them most days tho can't promise every day! So that's nearly £300, plus liners and washing. Plus presumably i will have to repalce these after a year for the next size up? they have some that say fits birth to potty but can they really fit for that long?
Can you ladies tell me if you think thise amounts are right? Or whether I need to factor anything else in. Having no one else to ask I'm trying to find out my info on the Internet but don't know how reliable it all is!
I'd like to cloth nappy so I'm hoping we can, just a bit scared of taking it on when I don't know anyone who has done it!

I can kinda help your a bit off on your math. a newborn will use actually around 12 or more diapers a day, its less as they get older but in general smaller sizes cost more . Here it's about 1000-3000 dollars to diaper a baby with disposables for a year . And I can get enough cloth here bought second hand for around 300 dollars

With cloth you can get diapers and liner that last from newborn to potty training an can be reused for all your children with only having to replace a few here and there that wear out.
Most people wash about every other to every 3 days and have enough diapers to last them that long . How many you need depends on the type of diaper you use . But for a newborn you need. I'm using prefolds so I'm going to need about 8 covers and 30 to 40 flats as I don't want to do laundry daily . But the flats are dirt cheap

For me it's not just environmental it's cost as well as I can cloth diaper for around 200 dollars for a year and sell them after if I don't have another baby. It's also that there is a ton of chemicals on disposable diapers . Disposables also take anywhere from 250-500 years to decompose on a landfill , and most people don't know this but your actually supposed to scrape poo out of disposables before you throw them out any ways . Solid waste isn't suppose to go in with put garbage .

This will (hopefully) be our first child and we want to go the natural route as well. I have been diagnosed with threatened m/c though because my hormone levels suck and I'm not sure if the midwife will take me... I'm very scared that they won't because I really want a natural birth with no interventions. Of course I would rather give birth in the hospital if I have to and if it would ensure safety, but if we get past this threatened m/c I would like to start using the midwife. Do any of you moms with experience know if the midwife will take me still? Also have any of you seen the movie "The Business of Being Born"? Great movie, anyone even considering using a midwife should watch it, it is beautiful.

Have to talk to the midwife but mine took me even with lupus , the midwife here said the only issues they don't take are woman with triplets or higher , mom having a serious health consisting like high blood pressure , heart or kidney problems , or if they find something wrong with the baby that needs to be followed more closely .

Be at risk for miscarriage doesn't rule you out of mid wife care

Phew, that makes me feel a lot better. My mom said the same thing, but I wasn't sure if I was "high risk" or not at this point. My mom said it is still too early for them to know if I'm really high risk or not, at this point it is just a matter of time and figuring out if the pregnancy is viable or not. Thanks.

I hope everything goes well and this is your sticky bean. Will pray for your little bub :)

Bonnie, for all things cloth nappy related, this website helped me loads (and helped me build a great stash): https://www.clothnappytree.com

There are also cloth nappy selling groups on fb if you've a look.

Depending on where you live, the council may also help with money towards cloth nappies, so it's worth a look on their website.

Was actually you MandaAnda who educated me on cloth :) never looked back. And I used disposable on my oldest. Then both went in to cloth when Alex was a few months old.

I have a few questions as I have never cloth nappied before and no one I know has either... Sorry if they seem dumb questions!

Was my own, takes 5 mins to load and unload a washer and dryer every few days depending on how much cloth you have. Its every 5 days for me.

Liners go inside the nappy and are washed with the nappy. I have about 20 nappies for one child which is probably a bit much but a friend sent me loads and I like some of the cool designs and had to have them.
Do you honestly find them as easy as disposables or is it more for environmental reasons?
I find it easier as I didnt run out of nappies plus my son has to have them as he gets chemical burns from disposables. So its worth not seeing that ever again. He has never even so much as had a rash in a cloth nappy. So mine was more for them reasons the added bonus of being better for environment.

I bought nappies at £2.50 on ebay, lining £6 for pack of 10 or you can go to a site and get the whole lot lining and all £4.50 per nappy. cheap, cheerful looking. Done the job. I am not loaded and didnt have loads of cash for dear ones. So In all I say I spent very little compared to the £10 a week I was spending on disposables. I put my money away I was saving and ended up getting a new computer in a few months. I was chuffed at that.

I was scared to start with to as I looked at the price of some in the shops and they where so dear. Only for asking on facebook one day as I couldnt let my son who was in so much pain from the burns go in them again. Doc said it was just nappy rash it wasnt it was much worse. blisters. bleeding etc Within minutes he would swell in them nappies. Pampered where recalling their nappies due to this reason thats the only reason I found out what it was. So my new baby is going to be in cloth from the start, need excuse to buy more cute ones. Its also an addicted.
