How is this possible!!!.... I've just got my renewal forms through and apparently I owe them over £2000!!!!

I don't understand how they can over pay me if I tell them of any changes straight away!!... They always adjust straight after I've told them!!

I would definitely question that!

I've just got my new award through and I owe them £920 I couldn't work out why I'm gunna phone them in the morning x

That seems alot :/ I think I owed them about £150. But I also notify them of changes as soon as they happened/

Wow that is a lot to owe them.Give them a call and ask them how. Are you no longer entitled this year and that is your over payment?

The only thing I can think of is.... Our income went up from app £21,000 in 2010/11 to £37,000 for this last yr (2011/12)

But I thought that your entitlement was determined by what you eared the year before? e.g.... we earned the £21,000 in 2010/11 so we get the payments for that in 2011/12. And the £37,000 we earned 2011/12 will determine what we get this year?

We are both self employed so only know our income when our self assesment is done, which was done before I got the tax credits renewal pack this year.

So I can understand from the change of income that we won't be entitled to anything for this year and I will have to pay back what I was given from April this year to my last payment (June)... app £400.... so where has the rest come from?!!

Is this correct?/Does this make sense if I explain it like this on the phone tomorrow?

The exact same thing has happened to me as I gave them an estimate for 2012-2013 in April and they should have stopped the payments and didn't! So we owe £169. I'm really annoyed as when I queried this when I updated my claim the assistant stated that I was def entitled this year as it goes on last years earnings!!!

Long story short I rang up today and after getting nowhere with an advisor I spoke to a manager who told me to put in a dispute form. This will suspend the request of payment from them until it is sorted out. You can get the dispute form on line. The thing is if u have updated them of the changes they are the ones responsible for working it out. So I will be putting up a fight.

Has anyone else ever put in a dispute and won?

I would also like to know on here who has disputed and won. Looking at all the paperwork they sent through the post they f*cked up majorly and ended up writing that my OH works 48 hours a week but earns a big fat £0, so we've been getting almost the full amount of tax credits when we shouldn't have been. Even though we rang them up and told them his hourly rate and how many hours he works! I'm going to have to sell all my possessions to pay this amount back!

That's ridiculous!! How the hell can they put that into the system! Obviously they don't check them as they should!

I would kick up a fight if I was u Hun! Even tho we only owe £169 I'm still p**sed coz I asked them over and over in April if this was correct and they kept tellin me yes!

I can't believe how stupid they can be?!! Luckily i have heard all of the horror stories about things like this before and kept a record of the time and date of the call and what was said. So they should be able to bring up a recording of us updating it all. It's pathetic! I mean, who the hell would be employed for 48 hours a week and get paid ZERO, when there's bills to pay and kids to feed :growlmad:

This happened to us as well, i rang them and gave them all the details over the phone and the dozy mare put 37.5 hours a week=£000 stupid bint. So now we owe them a fair chunk of money. I put in a complaint which they 'investigated' and sided with the dozy mare, i dont get how i can be penalised for giving the full correct details yet some stupid bint who cant even put numbers into a box gets away without a warning and im left to pay them back for their cock up.

Did you go through the whole dispute process? We've just sent our dispute forms off. What was their excuse?

I thnk that they really need folk to have to review and sign things and send them back - likea loan agreement, before they pay out. So that any errors can be caught.

I also find the whole CTC & WTC application confusing...I am going to have to apply when I am on maternity leave as I may be down 50% of my salary. and it does show it woul dbump it up, but I then worry about the next year, if they are calculating it on the current years earnings!

Did they not send you the paperwork showing your details and what they'd be paying you? It should have said on here £0 too.

I am having to pay back the £2500.... I am doing it over a 3 yr period of just under £100 a month!! :dohh:

The first set of paperwork didnt turn up so i rang them and asked for another set and that was when the cock up was noticed. It was about 3 months in total and thats what im having to pay back, despite it only being 3 months its a lot of money.
