Hey, anyone else experienced this? My DD has a tear down below between her anus and her vagina. I was wondering how best to help it heal and also what might have caused it. She is 4 but still in pull ups at night which have been causing her some irritation. Is it likely that this has led to the tear? I am not worried about any sinister causes.

Someone I know as a child came out of the bath and did some damage to themselves because they hit it off the metal handle bit, maybe she's done something similar? I'd have the GP look at it but for now use a soap substitute to avoid any stinging when washing.

Is she constipated? Is she drinking enough water? Could it have been caused by a large hard bowel movement? Probably the best way to help it heal is to keep it clean and make sure she has regular bowel movements. If it's as the above poster mentioned, then keep it clean and talk to her about not doing whatever caused it...

Actually I'm surprised it didn't come to mind before but I'd think constipation could be a cause too depending where the tear is. My son had an anal fissure as he wss severely constipated for a year, he needed a botox injection in it to fill it out and help it heal. I'd still definitely recommend the GP.

Depends how deep it is and how much discomfort it is causing. My LO got a cut on her vulva when she fell off her bike and the saddle hit her in the bits *ouch*. I monitored that it was healing (by whether it was less or more painful when she went to wee that the previous time) and as it was healing I didn't take her to the doctor. She wasn't all that keen on me inspecting her privates so I thought there was a good chance she'd refuse to let the doctor look too.

Thank you for your replies. It seems to have healed well now so think it must have been a hard stool or pushing when constipated.
