I had a trans vaginal ultrasound done, during which they found a cyst which measured 5x6x5. when i spoke to the doc she said she could not say for certain if it was a Endometriomas/endometrioid cyst or a Hemorrhagic cyst. I don't have any family history with Endometriomas/endometrioid cyst, no pain ... no symptoms of a cyst.

Is it so difficult to differentiate between the two cysts? has any one had Endometriomas/endometrioid cyst or a Hemorrhagic cyst and got pregnant?

I am really freaked out .... almost going mad. I would really appreciate an answer...

Im not sure, but I think they tell what kind it is by what is inside of it.

Can they tell you what kind of cyst it is just by the 1st ultrasound ..... coz my doc wants to wait 4 more weeks and get another ultrasound done to see if the cyst has decreased in size or disappeared.

Should I go for a second opinion???

Im probably not the most qualified person to be answering this but I am thinking that she is wanting to see if it shrinks, I think hemorrhagic usually shrink faster and a endometrial (chocolate) cyst will stay around longer.

I have had cysts for years on both ovaries interchangeably, some grew as huge as 9x8x9sm but they come and go (gradually within 2-3 cycles), most recently they found one (do not remember the size but a few sm) which does not seem to change in size (I checked it over 3 month period). Doctor said the cyst does not effect my ovulation and should not prevent me getting pregnant. It might be true but I noticed that over the same period I ovulated only from the other ovary that did not have a cyst (2 times in a row). The doctor said it does not mean anything as ovulation is random and can come from the same ovary several times in a row. still not pregnant though (after 2.5 years of TTC)

Both endometrioma and haemhoragic cysts look v similar on ultrasounds, that's why your Dr has suggested waiting a few weeks to see if it shrinks or resolves. an endometrioma will likely stay and a haemoraghing cyst would go.

It's possible to get pregnant with both, especially as you have only one ovary affected. Its often preferable if you have a good ovarian reserve and a particularly large endometrioma to have a laparoscopy to remove it though.

If you have no other symptoms of endo then it's likely to be a haemorraghing cyst :)

i had a mass the same size, i was scanned over a period of a few months to see if there was any change (there wasn't) and therefore they decided to operate and remove it - it turned out to be an endometrioma and i did have bad endometriosis elsewhere (at the time my only real symptom was the fact that i couldn't conceive so i was really surprised !)

i conceived within two months of the surgery

I miscarried on December 14th and during my ultrasound they noticd something and decided to do an MRI. Well the MRI did show much but the doc said that mines is either endometrioma or a dermoid cyst. She said that if it were a dermoid cyst she couldnt be sure that they'd save the ovary if they operate so unless unbearable pain i have been instructed to leave it and just monitor it but continue trying to conceive.

Thanks Guys! Apparently you can find out if it is a Endo or Hemo cyst by the color. But since I don't have my US report in hand I don't know what color my cyst is. In any case I have an appointment with my OB/gyn on 14th (awesome way to spend V-day).

sugarpuff- Did you get pregnant naturally? Do u know if your FSH shoot up after Lap to remove endo cyst

they had referred me for ivf and in the meantime gave me letrozole (femara) to try, which is what i was taking when i got pregnant :)

my first post surgery fsh was 9.8 (i was 27 at the time so it was pretty high for my age), i had my fsh done again recently and that was 8.something and i'm now 31
