This past month since I have had my lap and dye I have been ill too much, lol! First off I had a little water infection went to docs who gave my antibiotics(which I never took as it cleared up) then I got flu, then a cold and now another water infection(with a bit of blood-stopped now) went to docs again and done a urine sample waiting for test results. Have still got the antibiotics that I can take but am on CD 21 so don't wanna take them as they are not recommended to take if ttc, pg etc. Can't take the lower dose which is safe that contains penicillin as I'm allergic to the stuff!!

Just thought it had cleared up yesterday, but it seems it is back with a vengeance, feel so so uncomfortable etc and can't take anything. Any suggestions what I can/ should do?

Sorry for the rant!

Sadly, I am an expert in this.

Go to doctors and ask for Cefalex or its generic, Keflex. This is okay for when TTC, I was told, and it will clear it up right away.

Hi, I used to get cystitis quite a bit and found that drinking lots of cranberry juice helped, also I used to take a supplement from the health shop called 'cranberry juice concentrate' to try and help prevent cystitis - maybe check with the health shop first though before trying just to make sure - good luck - I hope you feel better soon x

Hi Pixielou (and CurlySue),
Sadly I am also an expert in this and can back up Curlysue's advice - get yourself down the docs and get an antibiotic that's ok when ttc. Easy to treat but don't muck about - they can get nasty and affect kidneys if untreated.
Good luck.

I am also, sadly, an expert in this! In addition to the above one nurse I saw recommended lemon barley water - I was a bit sceptical but it does seem to help. Whether it's the general fluid (obviously lots of water helps to flush the system) or something in the barley water I'm not sure but it is worth a try!

You really do want to get the anti-biotics though. When I was younger I left it and the kidney infection was really, really nasty. Not one to repeat! My doc has said that the usual anti-biotic isn't good when TTC (it is a folate inhibitor) but there are others which are fine.

I hope you feel better soon.

I've also been recommended Lemon Barley water. Seems to help, but not as much as soda water and bicarb of soda. Both are alkaline so reduce the acidity of your pee. Dissolve a couple of teaspoons of bicarb in a glass of water and gulp it down (tastes horrible but it does the trick). Or just plain soda water - drink as much as you can to dilute everything down. I find this really helps at the outset of an episode.

Don't know about you girls but ttc has made this much worse for me - too much sex too close together causes problems, and I always used to pee right after sex as that flushes out any bacteria that have made their way in - but that's obviously out the window now as need to keep those spermies in!

Thanks ladies,

Jan that is so true as I always used to pee right after:sex: but that was back in the day when we did it for other reasons, lol! Now, as you say, we try to leave going to the loo for as long as possible to get the little:spermy: time get to where they need to go!

Anyway, I've been to the health store today and the women there said she though it was best not to take anything for the moment, but gave me this pure organic cranberry juice. Which tastes ok but very bitter so gulping that down and gonna takr some good bacteria for gut etc and hopefully it should be better and come :witch: time I will take the anti biotics!

Don't wait till :witch: arrives - if you think you might have a uti get to the doc and get some pregnancy friendly antibiotics - it's seriously not a good idea to wait.....

Cranberry is thought to be good for prevention but not the symptoms sweetie.... so don't go overboard!
