My OB tests all pregnant women for antibodies to this virus as it can be dangerous if a recent infection is acquired during pregnancy. Mine came back positive and my dr shrugged it off saying it just means I caught it and am now immune to it. It can also be caught during childhood Anyone else immune? I don't remember ever catching it...

Yes I have it show positive. I've had a pregnancy since and my son is completely normal. As you said it is a problem if caught during pregnancy.
I have nursed an older child who's mother caught cmv during the pregnancy with her. She was left with very severe problems. Her quality of life was extremely poor (teenager who couldn't walk, talk, communicate and needed round the clock nursing).

Oh my that's awful :( so if we caught it it means we are immune right ?

My sister has this. It is a sleeping virus that can break out again at times when the immune system is weakened. It remains in the body for the rest of the life. My sister gets a blister on her lip from time to time.
As far as I know there are no complications as far as birth goes but should you experience Herpes later you should not kiss your child for example.

I get a cold sore once a year since I was a baby. Both my parents get it too so I assume they gave it to me but I don't think that's what cmv is?

As far as I know it is a Herpes virus that can result in sores of the mouth.

Says it online too: https://www.thebody.com/content/art4979.html

You are right marumi, cmv is a virus which is a member of the herpes virus family. It can also indeed cause cold sores. However, cold sores are also caused by a strain of herpes known as HSV-1. The strain responsible for CMV is HSV-5. Just wanted to point out that having cold sores does not necessarily mean that it's CMV.

Thank you for explaining the difference karmel! :)

Thanks girls! I called my OB and turns out I'm cmv negative! No idea why I thought I had heard it was positive... Preggo brain. So doesn't even matter to me right now lol but thanks xx
