Hi,
I am wondering what rights a man in UK have when his child has UK citizenship (he is UK citizen) but the mother has single custody?
Does a man in UK have a lot of rights to his child?
Many thanks.

Well idk about the uk but in the US if the mother has sole or single custody that means he has
1. No rights
2. Visitation (only when agreed upon or court ordered) and must pay child support
Wish i could be more help good luck

Is he on the birth certificate? If so he has shared parental responsibility with you, but you still have custody etc, he had a right to access to his child, has a day in their upbringing (ie. which school they go to etc) if he isn't on the bc he has no rights other than access to see them either through an agreement you two set up or a court ordered one and on both counts to pay child support

Because we live in Sweden (dad included) and considering getting UK citizenship for my child (but without his knowledge). In Sweden the other parent has no right to know what nursery, school etc the child goes to if one of the parents has single custody, is this the case in UK?
I won't be getting UK citizenship for my child if having it means the dad would get more rights to his child (he would use these rights to do bad to his child or bad to me..).
Thanks for your help!

Yea it's the same in the uk if he is not on the childs birth certificate as far as I'm aware

If he's not on the birth certificate here, he would have to take you to court in order to get parental responsibility. I assume it's the same for sweden? x

Thanks for responding ladies.
He is registrated as father in Sweden but people has suggested to me not to register her as British citizen. What rights does a father in UK have if entered on the birth certificate?
Many thanks for helping me out!

If he's on the birth certificate he has Parental Responsibility. I.E. He has a say in education, medical care... And can stop you leaving the country. But.. He doesn't necessarily have the right to take the child off you. He'd have to go to court for access still. x

as pp's have said, it depends on the birth certificate situation. i got told that if he wants to be on the birth certificate, he can take you to court and ask for a DNA test to put himself on there - but you have to consent to it! if you don't want him on there, just say you're not sure who the dad is + that you was sleeping with loads of men. you're only gonna meet the people at the court for a day or something - who cares if they think you're a slag? that's what the plan is with me anyway!
