Is it normal to be really engorged? My breasts are so full and feel rock hard! I've read I need to keep feeding, Archer will sometimes go 2-3 hours but then can be every 1-2 hours especially at night. I'm trying to massage my breasts and once he's fed I do notice a difference but in between they are solid. I don't want to get a blockage and then it lead to mastitis! I thought about using my pump to relieve them inbetween feeds but then don't want to end up with over supply and be in a vicious circle! I really struggled with bf my 1st ds and it's going so well this time, I really don't want to cause any damage and have to stop!

Just to add he is feeding for anything between 15-30mins at a time and has actually gained in his birth weight by day 4 so I know he is taking enough on each feed :)

Warm compress over the breast and self express to relieve the pain, within a few days engorgement should settle. Keep doing massages to prevent blockage. You'll get a "full" feeling a while between feedings but hopefully not rock hard as you described.

You could also try to do quicker feedings more frequently too to help with the engorgement

Thank you both :)

Breasts are much better today, still very full but nothing like the last couple of days so hopefully it should settle down soon x

I had this too and it's such an uncomfortable feeling isn't it!

Glad it's better now xx

I became engogred with both my babies but for much longer with my second, just keep feeding on demand and applying warm compresses. Your supply will regulate eventually
