How does everyone feel about names like June, May, Wednesday, Summer etc

Do you think it is more odd or less odd to be born in the same month/season/day as the name given. For example, being born in June and being named June.

What about place names like India, Asia, Dakota etc. Do you find it odd to name a child India, if you've never been to India? Or to name a child Dakota whilst living in Dakota?

Discuss!

I would think it a bid odd to name a child August who was born in August. To me it sounds like a descriptor that way and not a unique name.

Summer being born in summer is a little less weird to me because it's not as specific.

I think it's silly (dare I say thoughtless) to name a child June that's born in June. I've always seen the name and the month as separate things, so to combine is like saying "my baby is due in June, oh June would be a nice name". Ha!

I think the same about place and object names as well.

Day names are just...different. I'm not sure how I feel about naming a person a day of the week. No day sounds namey to me in the slightest.

Summer, Autumn, even Winter are more vague and so it wouldn't be crazy to have Summer be born in Summer. Summer born in Winter would be cute tho lol

Yeah that's interesting and I agree, it seems the longer the time frame (season vs month vs day) makes it seem less odd.

I personally wouldn't use a month for a name, even though I really like both May and August as names, simply because I couldn't stand comments like "oh just two months later and their name would of matched their birth month!" even though I'm sure people making those comments are few and far between the idea of it still irks me.

I see the names as separate from the descriptions, but my husband gets really frustrated by the fact that Micah's friend Summer was in fact born in October.. He's commented on it several times!

I would only use a month name if LO wasn't born in that month. I'd use a season name regardless though, I don't know why it feels different! I wouldn't use a place name if I lived there; like I imagine it would be really annoying to be named Bristol and live in Bristol.

I would find it more odd to call your child after the month they were born in - I think May and June are lovely names - but I wouldn't want to call my child those names because they are on the calendar(unless they were special family names) but if if met a little girl called may or June and that's when their birthday was I wouldn't feel like I needed to comment on that! I'd just say that their name was lovely.

As for place names - I think all kids grow into a name really - I could be wrong here, but so far I haven't come across any Indian friends who named their child India - but have heard of plenty of little girls called India, usually shortened to Indy - they have always been super cute kids and I've never thought it was an odd name.

Same with seasons - not for me but they usually suit the little ones with them :)

I loved my daughters middle name because it reminded me of a place called Heidelberg in Germany - it was such a beautiful place.... But her name is Alice Heidi.... Before she was born so many people said oh but Alice is an old lady name - which it totally is!!! It's my nans name and she's 95 - now our family and friends couldn't imagine our little Alice being called anything else

I just don't like it full stop, especially days of the week!

I'm quite the opposite. I think it's weird if you name your child June and she wasn't born in June.

Days of the week, I'm not a fan of. Seasons you can get away with, I think. Place names are fine if you've been there and there is a special meaning. Otherwise I think it's a little odd.

I like India and Summer, maybe Autumn, May and June but I must say if I heard someone yell out 'Tuesday! Come here!' I'd find it hard not to giggle!

Snap!!

My cousin was going to call her child Wednesday - I find it ridiculous.

See I would always assume someone with a month name would be born in that month? My friend was born in April and has the middle name April which I think is cute. It also wouldn't quite sit right with me if a girl called Summer was born in winter, not that there's really anything wrong with that!

My great-grandmother had twin daughters, one was born in the morning then the second didn't arrive until the evening and she named them Dawn and Eve.

I actually love that!

If it's a Wednesday Addams reference then that's kind of badass. ;) Not something I'd do with my own kid but I think it's kinda cool from a distance!

I was just going to say Wednesday Addams lol

Donald Ducks nieces were April, May and June

I agree strangely days of the week are odd but seasons are ok

I have a friend called robin who always gets asked if he was born at Christmas but his birthday is in June.

I'm a believer that as much as we think we're naming our babies, they really name themselves. Even if we come up with the name before they were conceived (because baby souls tend to lurk around us for a while before we conceive them). Connect with your baby spiritually and be guided by what you truly feel.

Baby dust!

I've always liked season and place names. Especially if there is a meaning behind them--I love when name choices have a story behind them.

I can understand why people use place names that they've never been to. When I was younger I swore I was going to name my future daughter "Verona" after the city where Romeo and Juliet takes place. I haven't been there (yet) but I just liked that story so much that it held a deeper meaning for me. Haha.

Day of the week names make me think of Wednesday Addams too. I'm not sure if I'd ever use them but I don't necessarily think that they are too strange. It also reminds me of the actress Nicole Kidman--I think she has a daughter named Tuesday but she is named after a book character or something?

I like seasonal names with the exception of spring! I don't think it matters when they were born.

Days of the week are peculiar to me and definitely reminds me of the addams family.

Months....hmmm I don't know! My grandma was June and she was born in June. I don't think I ever really thought about it other than it wasn't very imaginative!

My ohs mum was born in April so I have been contemplating using it a a middle name should we have another girl. His niece already had her name as her middle name so wouldn't want to use it again.

I know a little girl called Autumn who was indeed born in autumn, it's ok I think but I personally wouldn't choose a season name. I think Summer is a bit overused and possibly a bit chavvy now??

If this baby is a girl then our top name is Ivy. But my OH isn't as sure as baby is due in June and he thinks of Ivy as wintery, as in the Holly and the Ivy. Does anyone else think that? We also have a niece Holly who was born in December so this strengthens his argument he reckons!
